I think this board is not what you think it is. Maybe read this[1] unofficial collection of the rules and FAQ here.

Don't post in them. If someone starts a business or something with a self-moderated thread there's usually a good reason why and a also good indication that it's very likely a scam... or at least the operator cannot or is unwilling to handle criticism.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to use moderated threads. There are a lot of trolls on this forum (who could tell right?), and staff refuse to do anything about them, so self moderation is the only alternative for some one to have a 4chan free posting environment. If you find some one is scamming and you can not post in their thread, you have the ability to call their behavior out in the meta/scam accusation sections. Nothing is stopping you from exposing them.

I second this. A better thing to do would be to allow the staff to chose if they wish to let a thread run as self moderated . This way instead of repeatedly removing troll posts, they just have to make 1 decision on a thread or service that might be a scam .

I dont think this board/board owners take responsibility for that kinda thing.  Yes maybe stopping self moderator threads would hinder a few scams.

The way I see it, self-moderated threads take a lot of stress away from staff members/moderators. Instead of users reporting trolling posts in their topics, they can simply deal with them themselves. It makes sense and to be honest is a great feature... if you don't like being moderated by another user, simply don't post in their topic.

The trouble is scam operators post self-moderated threads in the Announcement sections where regular users see them, and there is no way to criticise the operator. Posting another thread buried in the Scam section that no one reads is insufficient.

Allowing new users to post self-moderated threads is a huge problem.

Self moderated threads definitely should raise your awareness. While not all of them are scam attempts, some are. Just be cautious and if you use your common sense it would all right.

This is not true. Absolutely nothing is stopping you from posting in meta, scam accusations, or the individual users trust ratings in order to alert others to their abuse. It is not appropriate that a legitimate and useful tool be removed just because some people who would probably get robbed any way MIGHT be fooled because if it. Ultimately it is up to the individual to use their best judgement. If the individual is unwilling to take the time to review the person(s) they are entrusting with their funds, it is ONLY A MATTER OF TIME before they are robbed. No amount of rules, scambusting, or precautions will ever change this.

I'm not asking that the tool be removed, just that newbies be restricted from using it. They should earn the power to delete posts. I see no benefit from 0-day old accounts having the power to moderate threads.

I sort of agree.  Makes sense for that elevated privilege to come after proving and demonstrating some level of trustworthiness.  is it possible to disable replies on a thread the same way they do on youtube?  I think that is also something that could be worthwhile but again it should only be allowed at higher levels.

+1. I think ability to use the self-moderation tool in own's thread should be given to members when they reach some rank between Jr. to Full Member. At this point they would be more comfortable with forum rules and better capable to handle lively threads. However, I don't think trustworthiness (i.e. capacity/willingness not to scam) can be affected by such modification, apart from a minor side-effect.

It's getting worse. Now the latest scam is using a locked self-moderated thread to bump their post back to the top without letting anyone else reply. This really should be stopped.

You always can open another not moderated thread about same topic. If it is a business, use service discussion and scam accusation if things are bad enough

So... has anyone here complaining even TRIED to open a thread exposing these users? If not stop crying, and DO SOMETHING about it rather then just demanding the removal of features people actually use.

I've been here for years (not lurking anymore for a month or so), and yet in that 1 month I already have enough hate on my trust page from randoms and got the whole just-dice room against me so I wouldnt have a problem with myself or others creating a self mod thread.

I don't want trolls messing with me and i dont see a problem as long as i accept escrow...  Smiley

I'm a lover not a hater. I'm a scam buster misunderstood. However, this forum is full of haters which is why you see my trust. They can't handle my success so they try to stop me...BUT NO ONE STOPS MY SUCCESS! ....Find Quickseller annoying? Click the "ignore" button below his name! You're welcome!

So now you end up with 2 threads on the same subject. Do you really prefer seeing 2 threads for every subject instead of just 1?

Self moderation shouldn't be allowed in some of the forums like setting their own businesses, in fact, I can't think right now a good use for it. Loan threads should all be transparent and maybe it should show that the post was deleted to the public

i think self moderated thread are used to control fud/spam in the thread
if you want to avoid any service that use self mod. thread then just avoid this, if everyone will avoid that scam services will not get much attraction
this features was created to help people control spam in their thread but it is abused by scammers
