Don't invest in Bitcoin until August 2015 (at least)

This is my conclusion after reading this (Gartner's Hype Cycle of Emerging Technologies 2014 - next one is due in August 2015, full report is priced 1,999 USD)



I usually read it every year. I did not this year, my mistake.

Wait at least until August (next Gartner Hype Cycle of emerging technologies). And considering the place cryptocurrencies in the 5-10 years segment to maturity, I think we have one-two years before it becomes profitable.

That being said, you shall research and prepare on crypto. Just don't expect it to be profitable. In the meantime, you have ample opportunities to become an expert who could sell his proficiency to companies once crypto become mature enough.

Where it says:
"Cryptocurrencies"

it should say:
"Unexamined hype surrounding the amorphous notion of 'blockchain tech' promulgated by entrepreneurs and investors who do not fundamentally understand the set of problems that are most effectively solved by decentralized blockchains."


That's different than Bitcoin, but alas, people conflate.

Hype is about perception, not accuracy. So it fits well. Hype around "cryptocurrencies".
