Are there logs available for the bootstrapping IRC server? It occurs to me that we could easily plot the adoption rate of Bitcoin by the number of unique nicks (IPs) ever seen on that channel. I'd be really curious to see a graph of that.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I don't have that, but I also don't believe IRC is representative anymore. As the user base grows, less IRC users should be in it from what I see.

I like the forum statistics very much:

Looks like the forum starts to generate 2000 posts a day. That's good for bitcoin.

I plotted some forum stats earlier. Both the daily numbers of people online and the # of posts are increasing at an impressive rate.

(watch out for the log scales on the y-axis, base 2 for most online/day and base 10 for new posts/day)

There are more than 11,000 people connected to the channel at the moment! But I agree, a history or a time curve or something would be very nice and interesting to look at.

Those are great charts.  Simply enclose them with (img) and (/img) where those parentheses are square brackets:

"We will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography, but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years.

Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks, but pure P2P networks are holding their own."
