Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

So it's only flaw is poor "DC Output Quality", especially at 100V input? Well assuming we're mining at 120V, what issues could that ~4x the expected variance cause?

Your line voltage isn't going to be specially at 120v.  It will have a voltage drop and varies on the line quality and cabling used.

Also the PSU is more of a 1kW since 83A are dedicated on the 12V rail.

TigerDirect had an EVGA Classified SR-2 1200W for $120 a few weeks ago and that was a MUCH better deal.

From what I read, the voltage output on all the rails was plenty stable. The only blemish I saw on the unit was that it was mislabeled as 80+ Gold when in reality, the unit didn't meet the standards for efficiency. But what do you expect with an 1100 watt psu for $140? The results were almost good enough for gold, and leave no doubts in my mind.

I have a few of these from when they first came out, and I have never once had a problem with them.

I have two of these units in my mining farm. One runs 3x5970s, a 5830, and a mATX / G440. The other runs 10x Bfl singles and a mATX / G440 combo. Neither of them have given me any issues.

Do I really need to say that the unit failed this section, or was that clear already? In case it wasn’t, this was a failure of tsunami-like proportions.

If you want to pay $270 for a good 800 watt PSU, the this ABS 1100 watt unit fits the bill.

Basically, compare it to mediocre 800W units

In that power range, we have:

COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series RS800-80GAD3-US 800W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - $159.99

SILVERSTONE Strider Gold ST85F-G 850W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified 100% Modular, Active PFC Power Supply - $144.99

OCZ ZX Series 850W Fully-Modular 80PLUS Gold High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandybridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom - $149.99

COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Hybrid RS-850-SPHA-D3 850W Intel ATX 12V V2.3 & SSI EPS 12V V2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Panel Power Supply with Fan Control - $159.99

Basically this power supply is nothing to write home about.

Also, doesn't this thread belong in Mining -> Hardware?
