My Wallet was taking forever to download basically so I decided to download the torrent and it finished .
I deleted all the files on C:\Users\Imad\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\blocks , I guess it's the right thing to do when I downloaded the whole blockchain file , right ?
Still not sure where I should put the Bootstrap.dat file I tried C:\Users\Imad\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin but still not working . It says "Importing blocks from disk" is it a good sign or what ?

I'am not a beginner on Bitcoin world , but I never tried Bitcoin core to be honest Grin I was always using Electrum & Multibit and now I simply wanna learn more about other wallets and see their features etc .. Smiley

Thank you guys

Yes, it means the chain is made from the bootstrap you downloaded, just wait.

It is a good sign, the client is currently verifying every block in the bootstrap to ensure the authenticity of the blocks. Depending on the age of the bootstrap, you may need to download a few more blocks before you would be up to date with the network.

I went to school and came back , found my PC off (probably my dad turned it off)
anyway ... the Bootstrap file got renamed from Bootstrap.dat to Bootstrap.dat.old and now when I run the Bitcoin Core it says : "No Block Source available ..."

What should I do , should I rename the Bootstrap from old to normal once again ?

From my memory, when the file got renamed, the process was completed.
Are you connected to nodes? You're sure you don't have some firewall activated somewhere?

and not sure what you mean connected to nodes

Bottom right corner you have a progressbar red, yellow and green.
If you hover with your mouse it should tell you the number of nodes connected to you.
If it is zero it's bad. Usually it's 8 after a few minutes.
Could be higer, but then you have to forward some ports to your computer

Seems like all is fine now . After downloading the 0.9.3 version it's working ... It was importing from the blockchain file & now it's Synchroznizing with the network with about 18 weeks left , I guess that's just because the blockchain file is a little bit old Grin

thanks for your help man

No problem, glad it's working now.
You know there are wallets without blockchain right? (like multibit)

hi,

im trying move my wallet to a new pc. have the wallet.dat file and  the bootstrap.dat downloaded, installed bitcoin core 0.9.3.0 beta, deleted the files in the blocks directory and replaced it with the bootstrap.dat and replaced the genereted wallet.dat file with my wallet.dat and tried loading the client but it just gives an error message 'incorrect genesis block found.wrong datadir for network.'

My wallet.dat is from a 0.8.3 version i think, could this be a problem?

You could make a new thread so more people see it and can help you . i will try to help you tho
I'am not sure if there is changes on the wallet file when the version of the Client changes but here is what you gonna try to do
"Backup all your wallets first. Delete Bitcoin folder in Users/Appdata/Roaming. Download again and wait for sync" or ... (try this first) where exactly did you placed the Bootstrap.dat file ? and the wallet ? It's not in the blocks folder it's on %appdata%/Bitcoin .

yes i placed it in the bitcoin it started working importing from disk, got down to 50 weeks remaining  i decided to close it because it was slowing the machine down as i was trying to do other stuff on it, next time it started up it start reindexing from the start, now it renamed the bootstrap.dat file as .old and was synching with network but is just stuck at 2years 2weeks for a while now. i may start again aon a another machine.

edit: now its got no block source.

edit: now its got no block source.

I had that issue of "no block source" before , I fixed it by simply deleting Bitcoin core and the whole BTC directory on "AppData" and I reinstalled once again . Try again all what I told you above (placing that bootstrap etc ... ) , It should "Import from disks" for a while and then on 45 weeks or something ... It should start Synchrozning with the network because some blocks are missing on that Bootstrap file.
Try to not close the wallet before that  . Test it and tell me how things going Wink

It depends on your hardware. What are your specs? IIRC 0.9.3 caused trouble with Windows (I'm guessing that's what you use?), see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=936408.msg10276009#msg10276009

if you see message "Importing blocks from disk", then you are doing it right, wallet is importing blocks from bootstrap.dat file to its database folder
it can take hours or more depending on speed of your PC
