Locally nobody wants to accept it and educating people on it sucks and the typical sheep just abandons the thought, and this is from someone who lives in the ONLY City thats supposed to be known as the "bitcoin city" Madeira Beach, Florida (on St.Peterburg's coast) even explaining how they can save money from VISA raping them and so forth im just really hoping some phat cat makes some moves that will replenish the energy in BTC that it had when it went from $50-1200 and I predicted the entire thing on streaming twitter and social media watching it rise $100 every 24 hours! made alot of people VERY wealthy, but at the same time a lot of friends, acquaintances lost money via getting scammed by selective scamming in exchanges . . . . sucks, local is the only way to buy to be 100%! Where is there a BTC eBay type site ?

OpenBazaar will be that type of site and it will be better than eBay. But I am sure early on it will take a while for it to build up to the point of having a large customer base. There was a Bitcoin type of eBay and it had a lot of traffic but the guy running it shut it down.

We're not at the stage where people trust it yet and it just shows you how much of an early adopter everyone here is, when you can go to a local starbucks and get a coffee for Bitcoin and so on that's probably when Bitcoin will be considered fairly mainstream.

With the volatile nature of the bitcoin, it's very hard to set any bar against bitcoin. One day it's up, and next day it's down. So how am I going to sell anything if the price isn't set.

As long as the price is unstable, and even worse - it's declining - almost everybody will actually avoid BTC. Also, as I said, most people don't consider yet BTC as a currency or as a value. They see it more like a valuable item in an online game.

I have advertised my car (same model) offering 15% discount if paid with bitcoin. The guy who took it paid full price in fiat. These are still the very early stages.

If we needed proof that BTC is still in its infancy, this is it. I thought it would be the other way around, that it would be more difficult to buy with BTC than to sell. 15% off by paying in BTC, hey, that's a deal.

I am frustrated also by the lack of a BTC marketplace, either auction or Craigslist format, managing to attract enough users to be useful. Bitmit was getting there but closed.
The for sale section here is next to useless in that it's not well categorised, and the forum search function is next to useless for finding recent relevant listings in it.
For selling a car, you could try beepi.com which launched with a bit of fanfare but since then seems a bit static, also, while they used to claim they took BTC, that option seems very hard to find last time I looked.

Im shocked no one has set up an 'ebay/craigslist bitcoin' - at least that i know of. I know of openbazaar but i for one dont really feel comfortable installing a client or whatever to use it Vs using an 'open' website like ebay where you can just create an account and go. Also, the 'non censorship' aspect to open bazaar will probably prevent it from going mainstream, at a 'joe public' level.
surely it would be possible to get a sponsor and set it up using the blockchain for smart contracts and btc as a payment system etc ? even with 100 users in the US, it should be profitable with plenty of stuff to get up there to sell/buy.

What was the name of it? also why would he shut it down?
If the one he meant was Bitmit, they were kind of vague about why they shut down, but the impression was that they were getting legal bully boy harassment from RIAA and MPAA and other copytrolls, insisting that any DVD, CD etc offered for sale must be a pirate copy

100% agree. We really need a solid eBay style website (but proper one, not some half-assed effort). But it should not aim only at bitcoin community, imo it should allow fiat payments as well to not limit itself to narrow group of buyers/sellers. And there's plenty of business sellers out there who would welcome a solid alternative to ebay and amazon. I know there's cryptothrift, but they don't advertise too much, and don't have much to offer especially to non-US buyers. And also the owners became non responsive lately, so not very comforting: is this project dead? tried to contact the site in many ways [also here] but 0 replies.
Same. It seems like the owners have gone AWOL. They usually come on IRC but when I go on, I cant find them. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=281333.0

Only thing is using a visa typically costs the merchant money, not the consumer. only if everyone started using btc, and the merchant noticed and then lowered prices would you save money. Moreover, the money you could lose by a 10-30% swing in btc price/USD will greatly outweigh any transaction cost savings.

I've seen quite a few places offer a discount for BTC on account of that, it could do a lot to encourage adoption but not heard any figures for it and I'd imagine they're be very hard to get. Yeah I think Dell did initially, but only on their alienware comp's. Overstock may have too on certain goods, but def not enough places that your average joe would decide to go figure out how to use btc, buy some, then use it to save a few dollars. Seems like these offers only got current users/holders to spend some they already had.

Bitcoin is still in its infancy, its expected that you are going to have problems trying to sell goods of such nature when most people dont know what Bitcoin is yet.

Don't you [OP] yourself think that you will be taking a big risk by selling your "tangible" goods for BTC, even if it becomes possible anyhow if you find any buyer? As it's currently uncertain to either investing in BTC or getting paid in it...
