In the second year in a row, Law and Order SVU (seson 16, episode 7) mentions Bitcoin as a form of payment acceptance by child sex traffickers.
One of these days the show might mention it in a better light... Roll Eyes

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I agree with OP.   But I suppose its the lesser of two evils.  The worst case scenario is nobody is talking about it at all.

Better not relate to that. We can find other means to promote bitcoin but definitely not through that. When bill gates mention bitcoin that is already some exposure, so why are we so desperate?associate it with this will leave very bad impression on people's thinking. I would rather have no publicity at all.

Too bad Bitcoin has been mentioned by Bill Gates in a critic way like saying "it will not be the one that makes it as the to-go digital payment".

Mentioning Bitcoin as a form of payment makes for a better tv drama than the old school handing over of a briefcase full of cash.  Got to be cutting edge to get an emmy....

Actually it's a good thing is one way.

Two perverts are known to the police and the perverts make an exchange with a suitcase of cash. The police would have to follow them, watch them, collect evidence of the exchange, so that it can be used in the court of law.

Two perverts are known to the police and the perverts make an exchange using bitcoins. The police would simply get a warrant and search their house, confiscate their computers and have evidence of the perverts' wallet and transactions to use in the court of law. This option is quicker and evidence would be stronger than the first option above.

The police should be thanking Satoshi.

I'd rather no one talk about it at all than to have people believe Bitcoin users are all drug taking child molesters. The only way for it to go main stream now is for the entire country to turn into a collection of Bitcoin loving junkie child molesters.

So how do they know a payment was even made? It's not like the perverts would post their address on bitcointalk hoping for donations and then pay directly from it.

Also it is hard to say that payment was for child trafficking related things.
Won't be hard evidence.

Mere exposure effect... It's a thing. Well it's just part of the growing pains Bitcoin has to go through. As long as people don't really grasp it and haven't had experience using it, those things will continue to cast a shadow on Bitcoin. If Bitcoin makes it, those things will fade away!

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

Never heard of this show.. anyway, it is great that Bitcoin is mentioned on show again. Also, I (we) hope next time show will mention Bitcoin in a 'cleaner' form.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Now, I wonder what these people used before there were "Bitcoin"

Is it not strange, how "people" will use, the most outrages and most horrible and extreme examples, to try and taint Bitcoin? You have say 1% of people using it for these types of transactions, and then they will jump on that, and use that to bash the 99% of people, who use it for legitimate transactions.

Bitcoin is not "bullet proof" when it comes to matters like these and we know that. We also know, that NO other currency out there, have 100% built in features to prevent that.

The media are being used as a "Pawn" to promote Anti-Bitcoin sentiments for the benefit of well established rich people's agendas. period!

Nonsense when the Dollar is used for more traffic.

We have many articles about Bitcoin saying it failed and the price is going to zero. The price needs to go back to 1000$ for some journalists to say positive things about Bitcoin again.

People fear what they do not understand and those in power fear it because it also threatens them so they use the media that they own to try slander it. Cash was and still is the biggest criminal money both in its production and use but obviously sheeple wont realize this.

I agree. Fiat is completely anonmyous for transactions and Bitcoin requires jumping through too many hoops and being perfect about it to make illegal purchases with it. The time tested method of buying contraband is using dollars. Here's a little trivia for you: 90% of paper money carried in the U.S. contains traces of cocaine.

Even if it puts a negative light on Bitcoin, it still makes people wonder what it is, and if they are curious enough, then they will go find out.

Correct.  The only reason I even heard about Bitcoin honestly was Silk Road 1 back in early 2012.  I gradually heard more of it, read more of it, and got into mining in 2013.

Any mention is a good mention in my book, good or bad.

Even if it puts a negative light on Bitcoin, it still makes people wonder what it is, and if they are curious enough, then they will go find out.
That's how most of us got here Wink

Correct.  The only reason I even heard about Bitcoin honestly was Silk Road 1 back in early 2012.  I gradually heard more of it, read more of it, and got into mining in 2013.

Any mention is a good mention in my book, good or bad.

This is also what got me interested. I saw the news coverage and it piqued my interest not just because you could buy drugs with it but because it was a decentralized currency and I immediately realized the potential in it. Been a fan ever since, I just wish I would have heard abut it sooner as I'd likely have a Lambo by now LOL.

In the second year in a row, Law and Order SVU (seson 16, episode 7) mentions Bitcoin as a form of payment acceptance by child sex traffickers.
One of these days the show might mention it in a better light... Roll Eyes

Does that mean that Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew can use Bitcoin on Under-age Sex Slave Paradise Island?

Who watches Law & Order SVU anyway?
Obviously we would all prefer btc to be mentioned in a positive light...but even if that boring show encourages a handful of people to research btc than its a win for our community.
