Supporting Wikipedia for their virtual encyclopaedia service, whilst spreading the Bitcoin word across the planet. This is in support of an email I sent this morning, asking if they would accept Bitcoin as donations, once completed I will send Wikipedia the results. Hopefully the results will be positive

They do accept Bitcoin as donations already , you can see the article here => http://www.coindesk.com/wikipedia-now-accepts-bitcoin-donations/Besides They make around 210 million dollar each month just by Ads from their website & more millions via Affiliate Links so yeah ... I don't think they need any donations to be honest ... still a good idea to make bitcoin more known and make people show their appreciation

Just because it helped me, doesn't mean I have to give away the smallest of bitcoin I have. If I had many then I would have given some.

I would never domate to them, btc/ fiat it doesn't mater, I don't think they really need such support, I think they're beggars. A lot of companies would support this project in exchange for a small button/ banner but they want to keep it 100% ad free, I don't think it's really worth it if you need to beg for support to keep it ad free.

I wouldn't donate to heavily censored centralised digital encyclopedia. It's full of wrong information, I rather keep my Bitcoins in my wallet.

Then don't. Surely there are many sensitive subject/entries you can disagree with. But there's still plenty of useful info there. It would be hard, if not impossible, to find any internet user who has never made use of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is already accepting Bitcoin, like what others said. However, not many people donate to them using Bitcoin because.. they require lots of information before we can donate. Donation should be anonymous..

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

This is super super super super super old news, BTC has been a donation option by Wikimedia for months now. What's terrible about the process is putting in your personal info just to donate Bitcoin: Stupid on Wikimedia for making what's supposed to be an anonymous process, not so anonymous.

There was a thread somewhere about this. They have to ask for such info to produce the receipt you can use for tax deduction. If you want to remain anonymous, just enter fake info, they won't verify it. Problem solved.

Wikipedia should definitely accept bitcoin. Wikipedia was a pioneer in online information, they should embrace and support other pioneers in technology.

It appears they have been accepting BTC for about a year, it’s just the link is hidden at the bottom. I think this needs to be up near the PayPal section, that way when people see it, they will be curious what Bitcoin is and start reading up about it. Thus, not only is this thread about Wikipedia accepting BTC, which they already do. It is about spreading awareness of BTC.

I think this needs to be up near the PayPal section, that way when people see it, they will be curious what Bitcoin is and start reading up about it. Thus, not only is this thread about Wikipedia accepting BTC, which they already do. It is about spreading awareness of BTC.
And that's the reason why they won't make 'donate with BTC' too visible. People who are about to donate get distracted and start checking what the bitcoin is (abandoning the 'donate' site). That's what happen to Mozilla, they've run some test analysis for 17 days when Bitcoin was listed along with other payment options. Eventually they also decided to hide it. Can't blame them really, their goal is to get more donations not to promote bitcoin. See my post from other thread: ... I know that they are accepting it if you do some research BUT why hiding it ?? ...
Why? Likely for the same reasons Mozilla removed bitcoin donation button. It distracted page viewers resulting in less donations. https://fundraising.mozilla.org/bitcoin-donations-to-mozilla-17-days-in/We received numerous requests from donors that they wanted bitcoin featured right on our primary donation form. Given the volume of page views to that form (millions during the life of the campaign), I was concerned that adding any unnecessary text would distract donors and depress non-bitcoin conversions, the source of more than 99% of all our campaign revenue. So we decided to add “Donate with Bitcoin” text, and test whether it depressed conversion or not. Here is what that looked like: [...]
The test showed that revenue per visitor drops by about $0.07 USD. Here is the Optimizely graph showing a 7.5% reduction in revenue per visitor:[...]
