Hi guys,
I hope you are not angry if I post here in english, but my chinese is a bit rusty I'd say  Tongue
I'll be in HK/Shenzhen for a couple of days in february. Of course, I'm a bitcoin maniac so I
was wondering...
- Is there a bitcoin ATM in the area? (would be cool to avoid ATMs)
- Are there opportunities to spend my BTC? Like: Restaurants, Bars, Shops?
- Are there any BTC-related events, like a local meetup where I can meet some folks?
- Are there any particular shopping opportunities? (I'm not a dedicated miner, but as
a lot of companies/factories are located around Shenzhen, I might get weak and buy
a nice machine if it's much cheaper than in the west. Like an S5 or something. I might also
consider offers for used machines, but this is not the main focus of my question.)
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Welcome to the People's Republic of China Shocked

First of all,due to the policy limit , you will find Bitcoin is less active in ShenZhen than it's in HK, so HK is always your first choice.

- Is there a bitcoin ATM in the area? (would be cool to avoid ATMs)

Yes , as I know , we got some ATM in HK, but none in shenzhen.

- Are there opportunities to spend my BTC? Like: Restaurants, Bars, Shops?

Yes, there are snack stands and coffee houses in HK that accept Bitcoin! Or you can google "Hongkong Bitcoin'.

- Are there any BTC-related events, like a local meetup where I can meet some folks?

Check here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=86.0
Or you can start a your own one.

- Are there any particular shopping opportunities? (I'm not a dedicated miner, but as

You mean cellphone? cellphone or whatever is cheaper in HK, HK is a free port without taxes, you can buy whatever you want with a low price.
So,you wanna go shopping, the answer is absolutely HK!

HongKong and ShenZhen are magical cities!  Enjoy your trip! Grin

Thanks, I´ll try this Hua Qiang Bei. I´m quite dedicated by now that I´ll grab an
Mi4. I played around with a friends Mi3 and it really makes a good impression.
Definitely a reasonable successor for my ageing iphone 4s  Grin

Yeah, you can buy tons of good stuff there at reasonable price.
Mi4 is a decent performant phone. BTW Meizu MX4 is also an excellent choice.

I just checked out the MX4, but I don't like the design of the phone, to be honest.
The Mi4 is just really beautiful..

Another noob question: I heard that can be a real challenge to get genuine earphones
from Xiaomi. So do I need to worry about counterfeit cell phones also, or is it safe
to assume that if it looks like an Mi4 on the first sight it also is an Mi4?  Cheesy

Yes, there are some counterfeit phones, fake Mi4 included.
For instance http://android.tgbus.com/xiaomi/wanji/506003.shtml (in Chinese)
What the webpage tells in general is that the fake ones are in many ways much inferior than the original one, while having almost identical appearence.
The safest way to get genuine Mi4 is through Official Website mi.com
Xiaomi's flagship store at tmall.com(Alibaba):http://xiaomi.tmall.com/ is also considered to be trustable.

If my understanding is right, there are also xiaomi stores:
In HK http://www.ejinsight.com/20140829-first-xiaomi-hk-store-opens-in-kowloon-bay/
In Shenzhen http://www.jtgeek.net/xiaomi-shop-shenzhen/
(Although the latter seems a bit fishy..)

I'd love to order online, but I don't like the possibility that my package could have delays
and arrives when I'm back home at the other side of the planet. Also, I don't feel too
comfortable annoying my host with stuff like this..

I just returned, so I wanted to let you know how it went: Unfortunately I had to
cancel my trip to SZ, so I was only in HK. I had a hard time finding the Mi4. At
the official Xiaomi store, where they had various other phones for sale, I was
told that the Mi4 is not for sale in HK. Also fortress and other "trustable" retailers
didn't sell it.

I ended up buying it at the Wan Chai computer center, but I think the price
was not a particularly good one and reflected the fact that this is hard to get
in HK Cheesy But now I have my phone and I must  say it is a great piece of electronics,
I'm really happy with it Smiley
