Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

I hate mailing lists, I cannot think of one case in which it would be desirable to receive all the community's messages in my inbox. It's just not a useful format.

A forum (like NNTP) is at least hierarchically organised and you can follow only the topics that interest you without having a shitton of unread mail every day.

Bitcoin Core developer [PGP] Warning: For most, coin loss is a larger risk than coin theft. A disk can die any time. Regularly back up your wallet through FileBackup Wallet to an external storage or the (encrypted!) cloud. Use a separate offline wallet for storing larger amounts.

NNTP? Wikipedia has the answers. It's what we used before the Web became "The Internet".

i know what NNTP is. the question was more like, what the fuck does this have to do with my question? i'm asking about a bitcoin discussion mailing list. that's obvious, isn't it?

Don't hold back now, tell us how you really feel.

I'm a wee bit old fashioned - I don't look at a statement like "Nigga what?" and think "ooh, that must mean what does NNTP have to do with a question about mailing lists?" I guess I'm just not hip to the lingo you young 'uns are using, so the obvious-ity whooshed by me.

Back to the topic at hand, you'd need to ask Basiley, who kindly addressed your question. I'd imagine it's due to the remarkable similarities between mailing lists and usenet - both are readable in email clients - and the advantages many people would perceive usenet having over mailing lists.

Baisley,

if you're suggesting setting up a usenet group, that's not what i mean. i am asking if there are any bitcoin-related mailing lists that one can subscribe to. that's all.
