ROFL - I'm no expert at Crypto Currency trading but it looks to me like someone or a very small group just blew 100 BTC to get Monero to jump just one place over Bytecoin in the Cap rankings.

And if you check the recent volume they are blowing dozens to keep it there.

That's an awful lot of dosh. I think it is bordering on insanity!  Grin

No question at all that the Monero market is completely manipulated by a very small group od people, if not, just one individual.

I agree. Even if a few of the Cult followers over at the self-moderated 'Moreno Speculation' thread threw in the odd BTC here or there the volume bubble we saw just after Monero dropped under Bytecoin in the Cap ratings could only have been 1 or maybe 2 other individuals. They would have to have thrown away 100BTC initially on this insane venture.

I know crypto is full of crazy people but for the Monero Whale Messiah to throw large sums of real money at a dying minor clone coin is nothing short of lunacy. We are talking Jim Jones, here!

Here's a real difference that doesn't get much press:

DRK - secp256k1
BCN/MNR - EdDSA

Of course if you really want to know who's winning, just add up the work on the chains.  Which one shows the most work?

To be honest, I was interested in Bytecoin, but there was so much hate and FUD from the Bytecoin community toward Monero. It turned me off to BCN entirely.

So... the Monero dead cat bounce came and went.

The Monero cult followers, encouraged by their 'leaders' with their creepy little self-moderated threads,  blew about 300BTC in total to try and raise the corpse.

But it was no use.

Monero is firmly back under the original Cryptonote coin, Bytecoin.

Onwards and Upwards!  Cheesy

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Thing is, every time Monero slips below Bytecoin either;

The Monero whales throw 50BTC in daily in an attempt to keep the Monero carcass floating

or

The Monero cult followers are expected to throw 1BTC in. You know like scientology!  Grin

The second scenario is sad but, truth be told, de rigour for the Bitcointalk Alt world.  Wink

The first scenario, especially if we are just talking about one person is even more scary!  Shocked

with 50 btc, bcn prices would go up several x000%
thats exactly what you want, thats excatly why no one with money is buying.

No, I am more interested in a steady organic volume and a stable price, actually.

but anyway, i really dont care. the xmr vs bcn is looong over, just boring. i made my decision long time ago.

Maybe you should tell that to the one-liner-newbie-shills who constantly spam BCT ALT with their self-moderated Cult Monero threads.

You all seem to care about BCN vs. XMR.

Please somebody calculate the total work on the chains for me.

Total work ~ sum_over_all_blocks (block_difficulty)

For the sake of comparison you don't have to convert it to total cryptonote hashes.  Same time per block I assume.

Who wins?   Thanks Smiley

It is?

20    Monero     XMR    $ 1,837,481    $ 0.304616    6,032,122             $ 17,053     4.06 %    4.75 %    -3.58 %

I am afraid so.

19    Bytecoin Bytecoin    $ 1,874,160    $ 0.000011    169,158,686,092 BCN    $ 5,466    14.32 %
20    Monero Monero    $ 1,676,905    $ 0.275826    6,079,575 XMR    $ 14,027    -5.21 %

At least they have both moved up a place!  Cheesy

But there is still the horribly low trading volume relative to market cap that has plagued BCN since its creation, and I am not even taking into account any claims of fake BCN trading volume that others have made, such as in this response to one my of my posts. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg10313811#msg10313811. Seriously the low trading volume relative to market cap of BCN is a red flag to anyone making an objective analysis of BCN, and serves to provide independent market confirmation of the allegations made in this thread; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=740112.0.

By the way it is not just XMR that BCN had to be concerned about here. Another Cryptonote, Darknote XDN also beats BCN in the volume game.

38    DarkNote XDN    $ 472,737    $ 0.000069    6,816,150,107 XDN    $ 8,217    -3.96 %

Since the collapse of Monero, the original Cryptonote coin Bytecoin has emerged as the only cryptonote challenger in the private and anonymous cryptocurrency field.

http://bytecoin.org/

Darkcoin currently holds the top position - it's well developed, has a strong community and a good daily trading volume.

Bytecoin is the challenger - again well developed, strong community (though not on BCT) and is not a clone of any previous coin.

They both have fast blocks, however Bytecoin has a much larger total supply.

It will be interesting to see how the competition between these two develops.

Sorry, but due to past behaviour -  rpietila or Monero devs are not permitted to post on this thread

No offense but Monero has 3X the volume BCN has.  5K in volume of any crypto is laughable.

Monero's volume is also laughable compared to Darkcoins.

Which is laughable compared to litecoins.

I'm a cryptonote fan ...  esp Monero.  But it seems to me that all cryptonotes are losing the economic race.

What is important here is not the absolute volume number but the ratio of the volume to capitalization rate. Furthermore this needs to be looked at during both bull and bear markets in the coin. a Healthy ratio is above 1% and is a market indicator of a widely distributed actively traded coin. Take DRK, BCN, and XMR for example

10    Darkcoin DRK    $ 9,435,633    $ 1.85                       5,099,019 DRK    $ 64,759    3.55 %     vol/cap = 0.69% fair
19    Bytecoin BCN    $ 1,959,401    $ 0.000012    169,166,153,197 BCN    $ 5,747    24.74 %   vol/cap = 0.29% poor
20    Monero XMR    $ 1,783,404    $ 0.293232               6,081,887 XMR    $ 19,525    4.67 %     vol/cap = 1.09% good

I have seen BCN's volume/cap well under 0.10%. This kind low volume/cap is indicative of a coin where most of the coins are held by insiders, massive pre/ninja/insta mines etc. It is also very common in scammy POS coins.

Even Ripple falls into this trap in a big way

2    Ripple XRP    $ 417,857,061    $ 0.013489    30,978,075,200 XRP *    $ 682,874    3.57 %  vol/cap = 0.16% very poor.
Yes it is worse than BCN, under this market snapshot, when it comes to control by a group of insiders.

Edit:

18   SuperNET Unity    $ 2,060,489    $ 2.52    816,061 UNITY *    $ 2,006    1.96 %   vol/cap = 0.097%  extremely poor. Ouch!

Boolberry BBR another Cryptonote is part of SuperNET. Remember Boolberry?

127    Boolberry BBR    $ 58,121    $ 0.019412    2,994,083    $ 127    -0.60 %    4.96 %    4.88 % vol/cap = 0.218% poor

Maybe BCN will overtake UNITY

Well, I would say 2x rather than 3x - The XMR volume pumped a lot just after Monero dipped under Bytecoin initially. Question is; If the many self-moderated Monero threads are generating the extra volume - who is selling?

I agree about the CN volumes generally - however CN is still nascent compared to BTC - I don't think it matters much what happens to volumes and market price in the medium term - more so development. Monero, BBR have been more active on that front but none of it is blow your socks off stuff so far.

Thanks, (and to Arcticnote) I'll take a look at Darkcoins - I must admit I didn't take much notice of new CNs after the initial 'Notomatic' post by cryptonote team.
