Hello, I am trying to build a new Cryptocurrency based on the idea of Giving to Charity.

I have been toying with the idea for a while (nearly a year) but after talking to the good people at the Bitcoin Expo in London this weekend and finding out a similar project is just launching (proof of donation) I decided to post my ideas up on here as well.

We give Billions of $$$  to charity every year why not get rewarded for it?

I am not that techie of a guy but have been interested in Cryto for a long time and worked in the non profit sector all my career, I am not trying to get rich, I really just want a coin that has a good initial distribution and that the general public, and cryto community, can get behind.

I also really hate the fact that when people give to charity at the moment they need to use websites like Just Giving which are For-Profit Businesses charging huge and unnecessary fees (proof of donation seem to be using JustGiving instead of getting the charity to accept BTC directly as Greenpeace, RNLI and many other already do).

I envisage PoG's being used as a kind of reward for instance you may sell tickets to an event which cost 10£/0.0557BTC and 20 POG, meaning you need to have given 20£ to charity as well as getting the ticket. Hopefully PoGs may eventually become a currency in their own right and be traded as such.

Imagine if Live 8 tickets had been sold for PoG's.... millions more would have been raised for Charity...

- POG is a 100% preminded coin using proof of stake (POS) to maintain the network and Proof of Giving (PoG) to distribute the coins (all the coins, no one can get them unless they give to charity including me, this can be audited easily)

- 1 POG = 1£ or equivalent in BTC, we could have a fixed amount of Coins or an unlimited amount, Coins could even give voting rights on which charities we will work with. Keen for input here...

- Will use it's own Blockchain or use Ethereum / Thelonious (Eris Industries) technology. Keen for input on this one as well.....

- Will be zero fee or as cheap as possible meaning maximum amount is give to charity.

I really need help with building this so if you have any thoughts of comments or would like to help please let me know..

Website: http://www.proofofgiving.com/  (very crappy website)

Any feedback appreciated, If you feel this is a stupid idea or too close to other coins let me know Smiley

you are "rewarded" for giving. in many ways.  exactly why do we need a coin for this?

I think charities should be vetted.  There are a lot of charities that really give back a small percentage of what they receive for the actual cause and use the most of the money for 'operating costs'.

I also wouldn't donate to Greenpeace even if there was a 3x ROI.  Those guys are assholes (reference Nazca Lines stunt).

I guess we would not "need" it, but if you are giving to charity anyway (as many many people do) you may as well be rewarded for it.

And have the possibility that the PoG's you get will be eventually worth something or at least be traded for something.

It will also help give Bitcoin a good name if many more people start giving to charity using the BTC....  Think of the positive headlines that could generate.

I second this. IMHO most of the donors wouldn't take the coins anyway (I wouldn't).

Thanks for feedback,

I guess I would take it if it were free and I was giving to a charity anyway.

But no one would make you use it you would be free to just send the BTC or fiat directly to whoever you want.

Would you imagine Bill Gates telling "I gave more to charity than Obama. I have proof, look, 5000 proof coins"? I don't. Sorry.

Rich guys don't really donate to help, they only do it 'cause it helps them get some big tax cuts.

Regarding the coin, yeah, it's a cute idea, but you need a business plan, even more so if you want it to have the same price as btc.

I will keep watching this thread to see what and where reach this donation idea. Sounds good but it is too early to say anything.
