This is the first time ever I'm trying something other than Windows on my pc. I don't know what came over me yesterday lol, I was screwing around on the web as usual with nothing to do when I suddenly decided to try Linux. I spent most of the evening checking out a few different distros on Youtube (there are so freaking many of them  Shocked ) and finally decided to give Linux Mint 17.1 xfce 64-bit a try. This morning I installed it (download was super fast and installation super easy) and WOW... I can't believe how sexy and polished and fast this OS is... and it's FREE!!!
I'm loving the simplicity of the design, everything looks so freaking neat and everything just works right out of the box  Smiley
So yea if any of you guys have been thinking about trying Linux, I'd say DEFINITELY, go for it!  Smiley
I've installed it as a dual boot but I don't think I'll be keeping Win 7 for very long (don't get me wrong Win 7 is great but Linux is something else) I just need to familiarize myself with using command line first.
Anyways if any of you hardcore Linux guys got any tips for a newbie, I'd love to hear them  Smiley

Well I gotta say I was expecting to find more people using Linux on here. It's been a few days now and I'm totally enjoying my new OS, I feel right at home, more so than I've ever felt with Windows  Smiley I know a lot of people worry about having to use command line but on modern Linux, you don't have to, you can do everything through the GUI. I'm still excited about learning command line though cuz it's just cool (and more efficient in a lot of cases)
Anyways if any of you know of some cool websites or Youtube video tutorials, would be great if you could post the links here Smiley

I've been using mint for about 6 months exclusively. My only complaint is the flaky pulse audio plugin required for skype. Sometimes coming out of hibernation pulse audio locks up and the sound stops working. There's a few minor glitches every once in a while but I won't go back to windows. I'm pushing it hard on my friends and family now who don't have unique application requirements.

I kind of like just typing a simple command into the terminal to download what ever i want.

"apt-get install app"

Sometimes i just guess and it downloads what I want.
