[SOLVED]Moved wallet.dat to another comp., no adresses nor money :-\

Hello miners!  

So after mining a while in slush's pool I decided to check my wallet for coins, but I noticed that not all blocks were received in the bitcoin-app.
After 15 minutes or so, I checked again, same percentage! And me, being new to this, moved my wallet.dat file onto another computer which got all the block-updates fin the wallet app, but then all my coins and addresses were gone! ):

I still have that mail from slush where I can check my address-balance at "blockexplorer.com" if its any help.

The 0.1 BTC bounty is currently half of my total balance!

Run with the -rescan command !

What OS you are using ?

Linux : open Terminal and go to where bitcoin-qt is stored and do ./bitcoin-qt -rescan

Windows : click on shortcut and at end write -rescan command when launching it from desktop say

How nice of bulanula to do a good turn to his neighbor out of the goodness of his heart, but to dig a pit for another neighbor when it benefits him!  Bulanula, you still owe somebody 22.5 BTC you were sent in error and the community widely agrees you owe it based on your own admissions.  Why not settle it while it's still a relatively small sum of money?

If blockchain.info shows that the receiving address has the coins, and you have the wallet to that address, your coins is safe.If everything fails, you can use pywallet at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34028.0 to extract your privatekeys. Alternatively, you can use the 'bitcoind dumpprivkey' command on CMD at the Bitcoin Client directory (Assuming windows) to get the privatekeys. Import the keys to Blockchain.info's online wallet and send the coins to a new, working wallet.dat.

If you moved between XP and Windows Vista/Wiindows 7, know that there is a different directory used.

Run the rescan process again

What would be really neat is if Blockchain.info had a place where you could just upload wallet.dat and they would sweep the whole thing.  MtGox indicated an interest in doing such a thing way back when, but never did so.

If the wallet.dat were scraped for the bare data structures that comprise keys, rather than actually trying to open them with the berkeley DB stuff, not only could blockchain.info give you instant results as to the balance contained therein, but even most corrupted wallets could be automatically recovered.

Until you have a complete blockchain just ignore any balance that it shows.

So are you saying you had a complete blockchain and still had no transactions?

That is unlikely.

More likely is you are having trouble getting the full blockchain.

Just for testing, try using a copy of the blockchain from the daily:

I'm guessing that there's a password for your wallet.dat.
Try the pywallet method. It's the first method I try when there's something wrong with my wallet as it supports encrypted wallets too.

 1. Install Python 2.7
 2. Install Twisted 11.0.0 for Py2.7, then Zope.Interface (a .egg file) for Py2.7: http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/wiki/Downloads

 3. Untested, proposed by TeaRex: install Zope.Interface from http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs

 If this doesn't work, you will have to install the egg file:

 3(32bit). http://pypi.python.org/pypi/setuptools#downloads to install setuptools
 3(64bit). http://pypi.python.org/pypi/setuptools#windows to download, then run ez_setup.py

 4. Go to C:\Python27\Scripts
 5. Run easy_install.exe zope.interface-3.6.4-py2.7-win-amd64.egg

After that, download joric's pywallet.py at https://github.com/joric/pywallet
Throw that inside C:\python27
Make a .bat file, and put:

inside. Remember to put your wallet password to replace FILLYOURPASSWORD, and add:

if your wallet.dat isn't at the regular place, add '--datadir=DATADIR ' with DATADIR at the location of wallet.dat

Your wallet should be dumped with JSON format, then you can import it to blockchain.info/wallet (easiest) or Armory and other clients.

This is what I get when I run the .bat script, it seems to be working(?) but i cannot find this "wallet with JSON format" you are talking about

Copy the contents of the CMD window down to a text file. If you have ONLY received coins on a couple of address, find them and copy the data for the 'sec' column (that you censored fortunately).  Just make a blockchain.info wallet, and import those privatekeys to the wallet (choose Sipa wallet format or Base54, I've forgotten that). You'll see the balance there. Afterwards, just get a new wallet file by deleting the old wallet (BACKUP FIRST) and restarting the bitcoin client. Try sending test amounts of coins to it (faucet?) ,and if it works just send the coins back to it. You can also try other alternative clients like Electrum or Armory.
