From that thread I posted
"I think this is a great opportunity to show them Bitcoin and get some users from the Middle East. The anonymity and low fees are sure to be a turn on. How can we spread the word and help Bitcoin go TO THE MOON!?"

So? Whats your point here? We should ban bitcoin?
I'm pretty sure they will exchange into fiat before doing something nasty with the money.

Good thing that they use Bitcoin. At least Bitcoin can be traced - within some limits, I know.
Maybe somebody really good will find out who funds those mofos and bring them to justice!

I guess there's a good thing to the price decline now...
IS is now up to 80% less funded and able to cause terror.

So? Whats your point here?
Aside from showing that bitcoin can facilitate terrorism funding (and according to that coindesk article, already is), that some people here think that terrorists jumping on board is good news that will help bitcoin go to the moon and that arguing that an association with terrorism is enough to bring draconian regulations to bitcoin and potentially kill it, none.

I don't think it's positive for the image of bitcoin, then again, people generally don't seem to care that the large majority of terrorism is funded in USD... It will be used as an argument against bitcoin but it's not all that strong. Bitcoin currently has much bigger problems that prevent its growth.

I don't think you want to restrict certain groups from using it either, that would break some very fundamental ideas on which bitcoin was created.

There are much more efficient ways to deal with criminals of any kind.

Coin mixing can be used to hide traces in the blockchain.

Coin mixing is not perfect - big amounts are not "perfectly" mixed, I heard.
Coin mixing is risky - you send money to a 3rd party and you hope you'll get money back.
Coin mixing is quite an advanced feature and I don't expect ISIS to spend much time on these forums.
So I still think that there's hope...

oh my why am i not surprised... looks like coindesk is whoring for mainstream media now..

"Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz has reported that S2T analyst Ido Wulkan managed to find concrete evidence linking an ISIS cell based in the US to fundraising activities. The cell apparently used the dark web and bitcoin to cover its tracks."

lol

you must be really stupid to collect bitcoins for terrorism activities. you can follow the trail that coins leave on the blockchain much easier than fiat.

and then...

Its not always the case .I am sure those mixing sites store transaction data somewhere, and if something serious happens, then they can probably be made to give up the information to the governemnt.

That's about the size of it.

The US govt has decided to start funding their ISIS/ISIL/IS/AlQaeda creation with Bitcoin!

Wow gentlemen, wow.

I made that thread as a joke but I should have known it would actually happen.
