I signed up for coinbase and i have to sign this agreement which i have to check. It also ask me to write my legal name. I obviously didn't think much about this and would put my real name but then i read people wrote a fake name there? If so, isn't this going to be a huge problem since they verify your name and bank account?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

The people that used a fake name won't be able to get their coinbase accounts verified.

If the names don't match up then like the above said it's very unlikely you'll be able to use it. If you're worried about using your real name I'd suggest a different exchange like Btc-e or something.

If you don't use your real name then you won't be able to use Coinbase. Yes, there's actually a legit bitcoin company.

They operate within the us. They do this because of the know your customer laws. Basically they follow the laws to keep from being money launders.

As mentioned here Coinbase is a legal company with registration in US. They need to follow rules there. When you will hide your identity then you can`t use their full service.

Yeah, they need to follow the rules of the country they work in. The upside of this requirement (of providing legal name) is that you'll have legal consequence if Coinbase commits some fraud (provided they have money to collect from). Coinbase is a good company (thus far), with a legit address in the US. This should give you some confidence in their operations and how they use their information.
That said, if you're looking for complete anonymity Coinbase isn't the right choice.

Like the others are saying, since Coinbase operates in the US, they have to comply with KYC and AML laws. You have to provide your legal real name if you intend to use their service.
If you just want to buy Bitcoins, but still remain anonymous, then I'd recommend LocalBitcoins or from a trusted seller in the forum here.

use your legal name, otherwise getting your identity verified will become really difficult.

You have to use your real identity to purchase through Coinbase. If you want to remain anonymous, can use localbitcoins, but it will be more expensive.

Well you can buy greendot cards and get a card with your name on it with a fake name.
Then when you sign up just remember your fake name and buy btc with the credit card with a fake name on it.

Why do you want to use a fake name?
I understand this attitude. I don't like using real name as well, simply don't want to have connection between my name and any amount of BTC. Same with phone number. to OP: try localbitcoins
