Hi
Freedom of religion is fundamental right in at least western countries (perhaps too much so even). Too bad that's abused with some of the "religions".
I think bitcoin doesn't differ too much from what is called religion. It has mystical character as a founder, Satoshi Nakamoto, which can be seen as a "prophet" or "holy father" of bitcoin. Perhaps even God of cryptographic currencies as this is quite succesful one.
Bitcoin rose from need, as did many of other religions. Religion has mostly been tool for the power-keeping elite to control people. This is why they are so widely adopted. Religions include directions for "good life" etc. and sometimes they actually present people with basic level for hygieny etc.
Like eating PIG is forbidden or eating COW. This might have been only way to keep people alive as to not eat all milk-sources or get themselves parasites from "wrong animals". This calling some things impure and some other holy that didn't need to be touched or needed to be left alone was really early attempt to keep more people alive that would benefit the elite more.
This has worked quite well to this day on will continue to work beyond it seems.
Banks have got so much power these days that's incomprehensible to me. Credit raters can wipe out whole nations achievements in one day by just giving out more negative rating on that country. Sad thing is that people themselves have given the power to the banks. People, or their governments. And everybody knows that money and power is always tied together closely so governments are also ran by banks and money institutions.
"Good worker but very bad master" saying goes meaning about qualities of fire. Properly used and controlled, what a great tool! But unleashed things are turning in to living hell as everything is destroyed.
That goes to banks 100%, too much power and they consume everything like fire does.
What do you think about the religious aspect of bitcoin? Is it just a "new system" or qualifies as religion even today?

Well I really didn't expect to see such a thread on such a forum to be honest . there is nothing can qualify bitcoin to become a religion , you can't even compare them between each other , they are totally two different things and religions are not created by humans as far as I know You may wanna explain me how you plan to make a digital currency a religion tho ~ Madness.

Easy. Bitcoin sharia laws built in the protocol to make it a true religion

Religion isn't necessarily defined as holy, divine, or spiritual even though that is typically the context. Religion is really about how one or groups of people choose to live their lives.
So, if bitcoin is a big part of someone's life and they make life decisions based on bitcoin it could be said there is a religious aspect of bitcoin.

You have just redefined communism as a religion. Pretty much anything else in a dictionary really: plastic surgeons travelling for a business trip, firemen, matrimonial organizers, day traders, dog trainers, political lobbyists, president of countries, babies pooping all day long in a kindergarten and, of course, atheists meeting during lunch breaks...

Freedom of religion is fundamental right in at least western countries (perhaps too much so even). Too bad that's abused with some of the "religions". How can it be too much of a human right? People should be able to believe whatever they want just as much as I can disagreee with all religions and think they're all equally bullshit. What do you think about the religious aspect of bitcoin? Is it just a "new system" or qualifies as religion even today?
No. Bitcioin is a technology and at the most could be used to further political ideologies. It is not a religion and religions and politics don't and shouldn't be mixed.

Btc users do not need to adopt some view about God, afterlife or the universe, so definitely not a religion.
And I strongly disagree with your explanation that religion serves just to maintain power. It certainly did that but this alone does not explain why religions exist in all civilizations and why most humans seek them.
For me, the best explanation is that God does exist and does have an importance in human life, therefore humans naturally tend to seek God.

Bitcoin is based on math, and hoping it's a success is based on reasonable expectation. How the fuck can you do the religion analogy?

There are far more insane religions out there, and bitcoin would be better solution than many of them, but lets be real, is a nonsence unless you are tin foil american or spagetti monster loving italian :] Bitcoin community has enough to deal with, even without ideas like this one, but ure welcome to start it if you wish.

Atheists do have a collective belief about the nature of God (that He doesn't exist) and they form groups and meetings so it does look like a religion.

They have a firm belief and faith in the nature of "the existence of God" (namely in the negative).

I didn't do it, the dictionary did and several rational authors have too. Fits perfectly with bitcoin: "Something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience:" from: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion?s=t
