One of the downfalls with multiple models of Pi is they lose their 'one hardware one software' advantage. Adoption of the B+ has been slow as people realised that they couldn't have unified firmware over the models. The same will happen here.

I think this is an amazing new addition to the Raspberry family, especially because of the extra RAM. I've had situations where RAM memory was simply maxed out... And yes, this will probably be the new miners king. You can attach enough miners to it, it still runs on low power, more powerful than previous generations, you can even run a Bitcoin or several altcoin nodes in it... Just amazing Smiley

And these guys from the Raspberry Foundation probably just found another cash cow, haha Smiley

The biggest plus from my perspective is that the usb and ethernet data now have separate data channels as it appears with the adoption of the cortex-a7 it added a enet controller (this should lead to better usb throughout and better stability for hardware connections

And from my understanding the gpio header is the same pinout as b+ etc so I'll be grabbing two( one to play around with, the other to upgrade my bitfury 450G rig

Higher CPU power, more RAM, more compatibility (even Windows 10 !) and thats still for 35$. What I miss the most is some high speed comunication on GPIO. Like quad SPI @ 25MHz, that would allow to communicate with many, many, many TH miners and put those 4 cores to useful work Wink

EDIT: LOL, 3 hours ago there was over 700pcs in stock @ Farnell. Now it's 0!

I have used the older model to run 3.5Th and the CPU had some headroom, I would assume these new ones really open things up..

I was reading it on TechCrunch - http://techcrunch.com/2015/02/02/raspberry-pi-2/

I wonder how can it help in Bitcoin mining anyway ? Am I missing something ?

Pis are great for smaller units but they can be maxed out on larger units with many more chips. And by maxed out I mean have a narrower working difficulty range.

RPi is very popular in mining space. It serves as low power computer (<5W) to run mining software and control miners.

Yes, and there is VAT too. And apparently they don't give the cheaper non-tracked option anymore... But it's a good option if you don't want to wait much longer Smiley
