then when people see bitcoin logo they think wots that? i have already contacted mcdonalds on this issue but they were to ignorant to respond peraps we need the massess peraps they dont realise this great opportunity because im really fedup of using my debit card putting my pin in takes around 10 seconds when i could just swipe me phone at em and get my large big mac meal with extra fries and 9 chikun nuggots

It would contribute a huge new source of potential BTC buyers, but it will also drive down the price. We have seen this same thing, when Dell/Overstock/Microsoft adopted BTC

You see a short term increase in the price, when the announcement is made to the public, and then you see a downward spiral. The reason for this :

1. The hype {good news} will increase BTC purchase from current BTC speculators and traders. They buy low and sell when it's just a little bit higher. Then the downward spiral begin again...
2. The BIG merchants, CONVERT every BTC they get, back to fiat. {Because they have to pay their bills in fiat} This increase the supply of BTC on the exchanges and the price goes down.
3. People would not just convert from fiat to BTC - There must be some incentive for them to do it. {So this does not mean immediate increase in NEW adopters}

These are just some of the reasons, why I am not happy, when I see a BIG company/merchant adopt BTC.

Even if the price goes down to $1, having more options for spending your bitcoins is always good news.

At least for people that actually use bitcoin as a currency instead of those people holding bitcoins hoping that other people actually use it as a currency.

I don't think mass public pressure is going to get McDonalds to accept bitcoin as the majority of their restaurant locations are independently owned by franchises which work out their own deals with credit card processors (and other payment processors - including potentially bitcoin related ones).

As mentioned many times above you can buy Burger King gift cards via gyft, although this is technically not the same as buying a hamburger with bitcoin
