Hey!

Is it possible to vanitygen a BIP32 hierarchical address?

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

You could generate a vanity address yes, but only one address would be a vanity one. You would have to make a script that would generate a bip32 seed, add a nonce, grab the first couple of addresses and check if one fits the requirements for the vanity address, and if not increment the nonce and check again.

Is there any software that does this?

I don't think so. It's kind of pointless really, it's much easier to just import a private key from vanitygen into your wallet, though it won't be protected by the seed.

No you can't import it "into the seed", you can import it into the wallet itself, electrum allows this. So if you restore your wallet from seed you will lose the vanity address unless you have the wallet file.

Creating one software can be possible if you really want to hack/test it.

I have a similar question as the OP ... How about multisig addresses? Can they be calculated by something like vanitygen?

Yep, they could. Though I don't think a tool exists to do that yet, it would be somewhat complicated, more complicated than the OP's proposal.

Is it possible to vanitygen a BIP32 hierarchical address?

As the first answer says, its possible to produce one vanity address, but all other addresses in the hierarchy still look random.

But expect it to be slow. I'd say more than 100 times slower than vanitygen.

This should be much easier.  What do you want?  Fix all but one of the public keys in the multisig address and change the last one until the script has a nice address (i.e. an address that starts with 3)?  That is possible with a small change to vanitygen and it shouldn't make it much slower.

I don't really want or need it, I was just questioning the possibility of such Smiley And yes, that's what I was referring to, make it work just like vanitygen, but for addresses starting with 3

Ditto. It would be slow as you would have to generate the key from seed and check if that address happens to match your criteria. I think vanity addresses make more sense for single private-public key pairs.

Also it will be very easy to generate the public from the MPK but say you found an address you like and you keep the "index"  You will have to regenerate all private key prior to that index if all you backup is the seed and the index.

lol in a way that is a nice spend preventer since you can receive bitcoins easily to that address but it would be hard to use the backup to spend.

kinda nice to force yourself to not spend unless you have the dedication for it

Will take me a while to climb up again, But where is a will, there is a way...
