Will Its Involvement On ISIS Lead Bitcoin To Its Eventual Ban? http://bit.ly/1C0HIkH

Well, if matters go worse, maybe banning it is just harshest way to go. We live in a free country and banning bitcoin is not so 'democratic'

Maybe there will be stronger drives for bitcoin regulation.

Eventual ban? Not as I see it.

Terrorists use guns. Are they banned?

Terrorists use dollars. Are they banned?

Terrorists use FUD. Is that banned?

Well, the reason why those were not banned because the government use them too. But does the government use Bitcoin?  Roll Eyes

Oh and by the way....

you can't ban Bitcoin

</QED>

You were so the know-it-all in high school.

You can ban Bitcoin, the question is can you enforce the ban, and that is where the answer is "no" seemingly. But you can go after users, so that works.

ISIS also accepts gold, so that would have to be banned too under OP's question's logic.

I'm curious what would happen if bitcoin was used for counterterrorism. I mean, anyone who's read about this stuff knows there are a lot of people in western countries who openly preach jihad. Hell, in Britain and France they collect welfare checks, and everyone knows who they are and no one does shit about it. I read after those French attacks that the police knew about the attackers but there are too many jihadis in France to watch all of them.

What if there was something like that bitcoin bounty hunter site but targetting jihadis in the west. The press always goes apeshit calling people against jihad "racists" and trying to shut them up, so it's important for antijihadists to be anonymous. Well, plus there's the possibility of getting your fucking head cut off or burned alive.

Actually it's clear nothing can be done about today's jihad problem until the powers that be stop making people lie about "Islam being all about peace" and shit. Maybe the best thing would be to have a bitcoin bounty hunter program to go after the journalists who protect jihadis and lie about what they believe. You know, the kind of people who believe in diversity so much that they think it was beautiful sign of diversity in 630 when Mohammed invaded Mecca and destroyed all the other diverse religions because it brought about, um, unity.

Journalists are afraid to report the truth. They're even afraid to show those drawings. Maybe someone could use bitcoin and Tor and other tools to make them afraid to lie, to make them afraid not to show the drawings.

Eh, it's just a dream. Obviously isn't going to happen. The truth is that the people we currently call "terrorists" are going to win the future, because they're the only one's who want to. If they don't adopt bitcoin, then bitcoin doesn't have a bright future.

Well apparently in TOR there are some people trying to find a drone attack in North Korea or some crazy shit like that and they accept bitcoin. This is a form of counterterrorism (NK dictatorship is terrorism).

It probably would be really good news for bitcoin if it was used to whack some of those top NK nuts. I can't imagine how much the price would fall.  Grin

The most used currency for drugs and terrorism is still (and will continue to be) the US dollar.

I don't think that the ISIS is serious about Bitcoin. Right now, they are using a number of alternative methods, which are less complex and involve less risk. For example, they are transferring money from Western nations to Syria and Iraq using Turkey as an intermediary.

^This is very true. One of the alternatives is Monero. Terrorist are big into Monero right now.
Anyone who would deny this, is in fact, a terrorist themselves.  Smiley
