I think that most people have at least heard of it, even if they don't know what it is. The problem is that the media portrays bitcoin as a money used to conduct illegal activities. That makes people associate it with crime.

Yeah even I think, that most people atleasty have heard of bitcoin and know might not have used it or know how it works. But most of the people I ask, what is bitcoin, they are able to answer it a digital currency. However, the concept of it, might not have been heard of, all over the world.

Statistically, 65% of the common people doesn't know anything about Bitcoin, its concept, and its whole aspects. This report was according to The Guardian and Cointelegraph. So, in other words more than half of the people around you doesn't know anything about bitcoin, the transactions to be made with it or how to use it. Am I the only one who thinks it's actually a good news. That means there's still plenty of room to grow. The far worse news would be if 100% people knew what Bitcoin is and how it works. That would mean that the number of users is close to the maximum and whoever was interested, already got on-board. And I'm sure that more than 90% people have never heard of bitcoin, if we take into account the entire world population.

it's a complex technology, most people are idiots, look around.
it takes time, much time, before people will understand it. And even than they'll only understand parts of it.
we've got to spoonfeed them a watered down version of bitcoin

Why not try this experiment at home. Ask your mom, ask your dad, your aunt and uncle, your wife, your brother, your sister, your in laws ---see how many know about Bitcoin. I have tried this little experiment at home and the results are as follows: Mum - Never heard of it Dad - Never heard of it, I don't use computers Aunt - Is it a game? Uncle - Can you buy beer with it? Aunt 2 - Never heard of it Uncle 2 - Never heard of it Fiancee - knows "of it" from my influence but nothing more than that Brother - You keep going on about it but I still don't know what it is Brother 2 - Seen an article once about it but didn't show any interest In-Law - Never heard of it So out of 10 people you could say that Fiancee and Brother 2 have heard of it but have no further knowledge (20% of 10 people)

I guess just most people don't seem interested in it as they do not feel the need for it.

It's about the same if you ask people about the stock maket, most people have heard about it but how many of them really know how stocks are traded, not to mention all the backroom deals that are put in place to fuck the small invester over. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer at the expence of those that don't do their homework and just follow what the news or papers say.
It's all the same with BTC, people want to get rich but they are not willing to put in the time to learn what the best investment is for them. I've been into BTC for about 18 months now and i still call myself a newbie, there is just so much to get ya head around.

65%? That is still questionable. Go to Malaysia and ask.. Ill say 100% doesnt know about bitcoin But then go to a tiny little island off Australia called Tasmania and I'm guessing heaps of people, maybe more than half the population know about BTC. Tassie is a state of Australia that someone tried to turn into the world capital of bitcoin last year. This was publicised quite a lot my friends down there tell me, word gets around in a small town.

I have close family member telling me it was a get-rich-quick scheme and was practically quite worried about me getting involved into it. Yeah, I would say most people are still oblivious about bitcoin existence.

It will take a lot of time, but probably good for it to spread gradually than too quickly. Example- Everyone that bought in on the hype when the Silk Road was taken down and hit the Mainstream Media, and purchased at $1000/BTC hoping to become overnight millionaires, then dumped all of it.
Even if there are lots of pieces on Bitcoin in the news, there is quite a lot of information in the news these days for people to digest, in multiple mediums- Radio, Internet, Television, etc.
