Went to check my wallet at blockchain.info earlier and it was trying to redirect me to an onion address. There was also this sign:

Quote
Please use our new onion link https://blockchainbdgpzk.onion/

I have not accessed blockchain for some time and was a little surprised. I did NOT try to login via tor at that addy.

Now everything is back to normal with no redirect to the onion address and I see no mention of the onion address.

Hacked or what? Disturbing.

That's the correct address: https://blog.blockchain.com/2014/12/03/improved-security-for-tor-users/

Why it was redirecting I have no idea...

Are you sure you did not go to the fake blockchain.info?
I have heard of this before, but have never seen this myself on the real blockchain.info.

If you are not sure, might be a good idea to log in to the correct one, change your passwords, and then move your btc to a newly generated address.
Just to be extra careful.

It may work perfectly now but something was amiss a few hours ago.

Someone in another thread reported the same thing. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=946839.msg10370495#msg10370495

I was not using Tor. I double checked the address and security and all was well. I did nothing out of the ordinary.

If you checked everything, and you are fine, its possible blockchain.info glitched and maybe thought you were accessing from a tor node.

I was not worried about myself being hacked. I never logged in. A hacker would have been disappointed with a two dollar score.  Cheesy

I was concerned the website was compromised.

Blockchain.info has been working fine for me and I haven't been getting any absurd emails or checkin bullcrap links. You're smart enough to not get fooled into any bs. I imagine you have a 2FA situation which should help the authenticity process.

Nice of you to say but I'm not nearly as smart as I like to think I am.

I went to blockchain with torbrowser and it does redirect to the onion address with the same sign. Why it thought I was using tor earlier is a mystery and I guess we can write it off as a glitch.

Glitches regarding my money make me nervous though. I'll keep my eye on blockchain for a bit before I restock.

That is very strange, I just checked and it works fine with me, maybe it's some sort of malware or not. Hard to say.

Didn't some members here have their blockchain wallet hacked because they were using tor? Other members here said accessing wallet through tor is not safe anymore. Use a paid VPN instead.

Probably some mischievous ware on your computer...like when you copy a BTC address to paste somewhere they replace the address you copied with their own.

I use Chromium --incognito with only the basic and well known addons activated. In addition I use Firejail to further insulate my linux OS. In addition I pay for a well known vpn service.

This browser is used ONLY for logins to email, exchanges, banking, and storage. Any other activity is done with other browsers.

2FA on everything including email. Sms if its offered. Gmail and Zoho have excellent sms verification.

Virus scan is done daily with ClamAV.

Bleachbit is ran regularly to further purge temp files, cookies, and such.

I've not had an issue today.

Thanks for the comments thus far.

I don't think there is any reason to be suspicious, I made a few transactions with that TOR version today and nothing bad happened. I just noticed that the link only appears when using TOR Browser, but not regular Firefox or Chromium. The real mystery is how did it know I was using TOR Browser? I thought user agent would be same as Firefox but who knows. Maybe server did DNS lookup on the IP or something.

Blockchain.info is working fine for me and it never redirected me to onion links.
That's pretty strange.
All I know is that they had some downtime today(was prescheduled), maybe they did this to solve out the problems.

Never access you blockchain.info from Tor Browser & block access from Tor Browser
Some people got their wallet hacked because they allow to access from Tor Browser

If you really want use Tor browser, you better set strong security on your wallet & computer
Agree. There were many complaints the last time concerning issues coming if people use the TOR browser to access their Blockchain wallet.
