Hey everyone! I’ve started on a little project and I just wanted to gauge if there would be any interest in something like this.

Basically it would just be a nice little widget that you can put on your wall and plug in that would display the current real-time status of bitcoin (price, a graph, and some other stats)

Some details about it:
  • small, high resolution display
  • Nice frame and case
  • beautiful, thin design
  • Wifi to grab data (add the wifi credentials through your phone)

The thing would probably end up costing about $100 (wifi, small computer, I’d make a custom circuit board for it, display).

Functionally I imagine this more as an art piece / luxury item for people who are heavily invested in bitcoin and don’t mind hanging $100 bill on the wall Tongue If no one’s interested then I’ll just make one for myself haha.

I'd also love to hear people's ideas on what else could be added or maybe different functionality entirely!

Thanks,
wonko

But people already carry a small display internet connected device with themselves which they compulsively check every minute, it's called a phone. Much cheaper to just make an IOS/andorid app and sell it for $0.99

Just my 2 satoshies.

I love the idea for retail specifically. If you can make it sleep, nice and for a reasonable rate retailers could definitely use it to hype their Bitcoin promotions.  Perhaps even Bitcoin Accepted signs with a real time rate.  Good luck with the project, DM if need help.

There's a setting somewhere within the app that allows you to take that annoying signature off. It's hidden, but it is possible to take it off.

This can easily be done with a raspberry pi, perhaps you could go that route..

Thanks for the comments guys  Grin

I could do this but it would end up being too expensive. Also going over some of the options I think I want to make the entire device pretty small (like 2" x 2" x .3"), that way you can stick it on a monitor or desk or someplace nice.  I'm going to fab a custom board for it to help reduce complexity/cost/size.

I'll have my design friends come up with a concept and a 3D model ^_^, also I'll come up with a pleasing UI.  The display will be full color OLED so there's some nice possibilities for the UI.

Ideally the shell would be black anodized aluminum but I think that will be too expensive for such small quantities Sad, I'll look into it!
