Metro Bank (UK)   2012-07-24 18:51 BST
While we were previously under the impression that the problems we were having with Metro bank were due to a technical issue on their end (as this has happened before), we have been told that our account activity is being reviewed and that we must be patient during this process. We have faith that our contact at Metro bank will properly investigate the matter. They have indicated that they do not require information from us at this time. The resolution time we were given was around 1 week, however this is just an approximation.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused our userbase. We are doing everything we can to resolve the problem as fast as possible. In the future, we may not be able to accept payments quite as fast anymore to prevent fraud however we will work hard to decrease our resolution times for issues and make the experience of purchasing and selling bitcoins as easy for the UK as possible.

We understand that many people have called Metro bank and Metro has told them that there is no issue. This is entirely incorrect. We believe it in not intentional it is simply that their support staff assumes that if there is not an issue affecting all accounts or a huge number of accounts at the bank that there is not an issue with our account.

As background, I've had a transfer with them currently missing since Thursday. Very little response to tickets in their support system, and with this new status update they mass-closed all tickets related to UK Sterling deposits.

Ok, I posted money to Intersango last Thursday night to buy BTC so i could purchase my Bitcoin conference ticket. It is in the public interest for me to post the full contents of my support ticket.

Your price/payment will still be reserved.

Below is the mail we are currently sending out though to users as we are currently having UK bank issues.

Hi,

Please read our statement regarding the current GBP payment issues. The issues have effected some of the payments in and have suspended the payments out. The statement can be found on our support page.

https://support.intersango.com/

We are very sorry for the inconveniences this has caused and are doing everything we can. Because tickets regarding GBP payments have become unmanageable (due to the volume created by this incident) we will be closing all GBP tickets. We will be updating the notice as we learn more information. Once the issue has been resolved, we will be happy to address the GBP issues and encourage you to reopen your ticket if there is still an issue with your payment. Again, we are greatly sorry for the inconveniences this has caused our userbase.

Part of the very reason we feel so strongly about bitcoins is due to banking issues like these. Still we are confident that Metro bank will resolve the issue in an appropriate manner.

Sincerely,
Team Intersango

good afternoon,

do we have any news as to the ETA of my funds?

July 21, 2012, 8:58 p.m.Donald
Hi,

Yes, genjix and I talked about conference payments and I am able to guarantee the timestamp of payments for him and thusly your price.

The issues we are having are mostlikely due to banking issues which we hope to resolve on Monday and so it's no longer likely to be a reference code issue.

Sincerely,
Team Intersango

"There will be a record of your payment and it's time stamp so I will be able to make sure that you receive the unexpired ticket price.

I will keep this ticket open and get back to you soon."

Is this statement referring to the conference, I know there is some staff crossover... I've previously been dealing with amir/genjix.

this is mighty confusing, I'll look in again in the morning.

Regards

John

Hi,

It seems that the payment has not come through but sometimes payments are postdated.

I have contacted the bank with regards to this payment and am waiting to hear back.

Sincerely,
Team Intersango

Hi,

There will be a record of your payment and it's time stamp so I will be able to make sure that you receive the unexpired ticket price.

I will keep this ticket open and get back to you soon.

Hi,

The most likely case is that the reference code was not passed on or was mistyped somewhere along the lines. This can be as a result of incongruent banking standards and not necessarily a user fault.

We will have to manually verify your payment on our end and attach it to the account.

Please be patient as we require our administrator to do this. Right now our resolution time for such matters is 1 to 3 days.

We are working on a console which will give non administrators limited administrative capacities to be able to securely deal with such problems so that we can provide better resolution times in the near future.

Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Team Intersango

July 20, 2012, 7:40 p.m.needs_user_action -> needs_staff_action
I sent it last night.

July 20, 2012, 5:37 p.m.Donald
Hi,

Did you send this before noon? If so you should have it. Let me know if you don't because if you don't have it it is likely a reference code issue and I can have the administrator manually search and link the payment.

Sincerely,
Team Intersango

I know it can take a couple of hours but I was wondering, if it is being processed.

At this stage, I am personally not concerned, the guys have been helpful and kept me informed. As there is common staff between the Bitcoin Consultancy (running the event) and Intersango, my ticket price is safe, as are my funds by the sound of it. You can call conspiracy all you like, but in the interest of the currency we are all here to support, and knowing that mainstream banks don't really know how to handle our exchanges, surely giving them the benefit of the doubt should be in order rather than screaming blue murder?

I am satisfied with the explanation so far, and I will endeavour to keep in contact with them over the next few days. I am in London tomorrow, and may swing by their office, not sure what would happen or it would achieve but, it will be interesting.

Looks like I'll have to wait three days for MtGox Barclay's transfers.  At least they don't charge 20p.

Yep, this is shit indeed.

My money being now stuck in there is my whole reason for making an account here today, infact!

Any posts from me that were posted in Russian were NOT from me. A cykablyat obtained my forum login details when they were leaked, I was inactive from the forum at that time.

7 days my money been in there with no acknowledgement ,id say its gone

the entire balance of Intersango could be seized for months if some of it is deemed
to profits from drug dealing

they may not even be able to recover this account if its so open to fraud

There's some discussion (and speculation) in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63877.260

Actually, I think the big problem that exchanges will come up against is anti money laundering rules - specifically so called 'know your customer' rules.  Truly anonymous bank accounts aren't permitted - the bank (or in this case exchange) is supposed to know who you are.
