Bitcoin has had a rough time lately, with its slumping value and high-profile flameouts, but Casares has no doubt that the digital currency will prevail. First, it promises efficiency and equality of access unlike anything the world has known. Also, he argues, technology has already created a leapfrog effect in the developing world. As cellphone usage shows, billions of people worldwide have cash but exist outside of the traditional banking and credit systems. Bitcoin unleashes that power.

Casares believes the revolution will take time, and bitcoin will not fully replace other forms of money. His newest company, Xapo, is said to be the largest custodian of bitcoin in the world, catering to people seeking to hold on to the currency in a secure way. As such, he says, Xapo is the "Swiss bank of bitcoin."

I'm sure Bitcoin will have much more acceptance over the following years. My worry is what will happen when those same people find out about Tittie Coin and Bill Murray coin.

If not Bitcoin, one of the other Alt coins based on the Bitcoin protocol.... will take it's place.

It will disrupt the financial systems as we know it, and we will see innovation far beyond what we ever saw in the finacial sector.

I do agree with Casares, money will not be the same, and people will change suddenly to the new defacto currency.

If there are other altcoins thrown into the mix then how can anyone reach concensus? Basically the financial world will look like the altcoin section on here. I think Bitcoin has to be the backbone of the system or it all all unravels.

Well, Bitcoin will be replaced by other technology (not Altcoin) in the future. I mean.. a really long time.

Most of them will join the Altcoin and find that the community is small. And they will come back to Bitcoin. Just my thought.

It is possible that Bitcoin will become bigger than internet but unlikely. Bitcoin can get huge, it is already enough to get invested.

Ah...This is something that I agree. Not everybody has patience and is willing to look long term.
