Two-thirds of Americans want the U.S. to put some boots on the ground to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, and a majority wants Congress to authorize President Obama’s plan for military action, according to a new NBC News/Maris poll released Friday.

A majority of Americans polled, 54 percent, said their member of Congress should vote to authorize U.S. military action against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), while 32 percent are opposed to it.

Positions on ground troops break down to 40 percent who support a “limited number” of troops on the ground, mostly in line with the president’s authorization. Twenty-six percent want the military to deploy a “large number of U.S. ground forces.”

The authorization request, released Tuesday, allows the president to fight ISIS for three years without geographic limitation but prohibits “enduring offensive ground combat operations.” Congressional resistance to the plan continues to grow on both sides of the aisle and many lawmakers have said they are unsure it will pass as is.

There’s a stark partisan split over the ground troop debate. Thirty-eight percent of Republicans support deploying a “large amount” of boots on the ground, while just 16 percent of Democrats back that strategy. That largely mirrors the debate in Congress: Republicans have panned the strategy for being too restrictive, while Democrats are worried the vague language could give the president too much power.

The American public also shows a partisan split over their confidence in Obama’s plan. In general, the public is about equally split — 48 percent of those polled don’t have much faith in the plan, while 45 percent do. But underneath the surface, that equilibrium comes from 82 percent of Republicans having minimal faith in Obama’s plan, compared to 71 percent of Democrats who trust the president.

The media has outdone themselves yet again in pounding the war drums. Not sure where the money is going to come from, tho.

Again, the discussion on waging the global war against terrorism is centered on ISIS when Boko Haram just attacked their newest conquest: Chad.  Boko Haram is doing awful things too and needs to be stopped just as bad as ISIS.

Wether or not it is right or wrong to deploy ground troops in the eyes of the American people I think there is a growing form of islamaphobia around the world. I can see it happening in my own country and it is pretty sad.

Gallup: Americans see ISIS as gravest threat to US

Quote
Are you fucking kidding me? 84% of the ignorant masses actually believe 20,000 ragheaded camel jockeys in the Middle East who like to make gory Youtube videos and were funded and armed by the good old USA government are a CRITICAL threat to our country. That is the most pathetic thing I’ve ever read. Bernays was an absolute genius and his disciples have perfected the art of propaganda.

The US public education system has succeeded in dumbing down Americans to such an extent, they will believe anything they are told by the government and their MSM propaganda mouthpieces. I’m disgusted to be living amongst so many idiots and non-critical thinking believers. I sure hope it doesn’t take a majority to prevail, because we’re doomed if that is the case.

CBS poll: 57% want US ground troops to take on ISIS

Quote
If the White House hoped to convince Americans about its strategy for handling ISIS, it has failed miserably at doing so. While Eric Holder says we’re not really at war-war, the State Department considers it an opportunity for a jobs program, and Obama insists that we need to concentrate on being better communicators, a growing majority of Americans consider ISIS a threat to national security — and want to send troops to fight them. The change from October of last year in this CBS poll is striking:

The topline numbers themselves speak to the failure of the Obama administration to make its sale on indirect intervention and soft power against ISIS. Almost two-thirds now see ISIS as a direct threat, probably thanks to the videos that make that a very clear proposition, and now a majority of 57% want American ground troops to go to Iraq and Syria. That in and of itself is a sea change from 2008, when Obama won a seven-point victory over John McCain on the promise to get troops out of Iraq and keep them out of other Middle East conflicts.

The change in the gap is even more striking. Last October, a month after Obama announced his strategy to deal with ISIS — coalition building, air strikes, no boots on the ground — the US was split on the prospects, with ground-troop deployment showing a one-point advantage, 47/46. That has changed 19 points in the gap away from Obama’s position, 57/37, in the five months since. It’s a big vote of no confidence in the administration on national security. Obama won office by getting ahead of a curve rather than leading it; now he’s facing a curve in the opposite direction, and he seems not just powerless to reverse it, but might be aggravating the problem with his public-speaking stumbles.

CBS asked former CIA deputy director Mike Morell whether Obama’s making a big mistake by trying to avoid saying the words “Islamist extremism” in relation to terrorism. “I get what the President is doing,” Morrell says, but he’s not going to convince the terrorists that he’s facing reality with that talk. They “believe they are religious warriors … It’s not rhetoric on their part. They really believe it.” It’s not keeping ISIS from “spreading their brand,” either, as Morrell says, although he doesn’t link it to Obama’s focus on communications.

At any rate, Congress has to take up the AUMF debate soon. With these numbers in mind, Republicans should (as I suggested last week) give Obama a “clean” AUMF that authorizes him to use all options against ISIS until we have defeated them — no timetables, no restrictions, just a full authorization, and let Obama either carry the responsibility for his own failing strategy or change it to something more effective.

Great job mainstream media, especially Fox! Reminds me of 2003 all over again. As well as 2007, right before the upcoming presidential primaries where the entire electorate has been manipulated and propagandized to be ready for more war after the last few years of hollowing out middle eastern countries and making them breeding grounds for the newest boogieman - ISIS.

dude, it makes more than 100 years that the money printers exploit and fuck the American daughters, wives and gfs with fresh legal "tender" notes, and most of the American males and females, in their arrogant superiority (illusion) have been flouted to the point of being unable to accept that they have been tricked. you know like a very primitive tribe, where the "shamans" make a magic trick (basic magic, card counting what ever) and all the tribe start to worship him, until one day, one kid discover the trick, show it to the warriors... that's where the destiny of this tribe lies... are they strong enough to admit to have fallen lower than the ground (and even hell) and RYSE AGAIN, or just chose to suicide themselves as the fight seems impossible. they forget one thing (even after Irak and Afg), GOD IS THE GREATEST. how do you think that Men (REAL HOMEFRONT) with ak47 and IEDS can defeat or at least keep at bay the useless army made of the idiots that have fallen on the trick... everything is clear now.

the terrorist are the best tool in the conquest of the world by the se(x)curity apparatus. they go in all country (excluding those that have seen and acted) and say : if you don't give access to all your data on everyone (girls target in reality), we will not be able to defend you... then a false flag, and boom they have the access and the superiority and domination over those of the local home front. I don't think they are the gravest threat, but definitely ones that should be eliminated before they become one.

The government doesn't clear this misinformation - because they need some control over the Middle East to secure their oil supply.

The media has outdone themselves yet again in pounding the war drums. Not sure where the money is going to come from, tho.

I'm not surprised by this. The media constantly covers mass executions, the brutal tactics, the threats against America, and the logical reaction is people say someone has to stop them. The next logical step is "we" have to stop them. The theory that if we don't stop them now they'll be more able to attack America follows logically, but it also smacks of the Domino Theory during the Cold War: 'if we don't stop communism in Vietnam, it'll spread all over Asia, then Europe, then America.' That theory also made sense and rallied the war hawks, but no one can make a credible argument for it anymore because what we know in hindsight trumps what we thought we knew in the emotional hype of that time.

As for how we're going to pay for it, how do we pay for anything? Debt! It's not like we're suddenly going to start concerning ourselves with debt spending. That would be crazy.

Most American's would probably support invading canada if the media told them it has some angry muslims terrorists.

Again, the discussion on waging the global war against terrorism is centered on ISIS when Boko Haram just attacked their newest conquest: Chad.  Boko Haram is doing awful things too and needs to be stopped just as bad as ISIS.

Is Boko Haram in control of any oil fields?

Ha, exactly. Africa doesn't really have anything they want as they raped them of their wealth decades ago.

Africa is still rich in natural resources. There are huge oil deposits in Sudan, Angola and Nigeria. There are diamonds in Namibia and Botswana. Gold and Platinum in South Africa. Copper in Zambia. Uranium in Niger. Tantalum in Congo.... the list is endless.

The problem is this idea that we can "defeat" them. Why should we believe we would win a fight against DASCH? My entire life I have watched America get it's ass kicked by guys in pajamas. Did we defeat Al-Qaeda? No. The jihadists have become stronger than ever.   I wish it were as simple as who has the best army.

but that's a good plan to destroy the usarmy or at least weaken it, distract it, certainly the cia behind the scene trying to defend the ctrl+p against the military... internal wars. they will pay dearly. 22/d.
