Whats happened with BTER ?

They are gone for the good. Move over to escrow based exchanges like www.localbitcoins.com, www.100bit.co.in, www.bitquick.co etc, especially those where you do not need to keep your coins to make a trade.

The coins are not coming back i am afraid to say, you do not HACK a cold wallet you only steal from one, unlucky to all those who lost their BTC.

EDIT: and altcoins! great we will have dumps coming up over next few days  Grin Cheesy

Well is this not excellent news to wake up to? Another theft of my hard earned BTC!! Luckily i never keep to much on an exchange especially BTER but have lost $500 + and altcoins.

What a beautiful morning, on the bright side i am sure some would have lost a little more than that  Angry

Bter got owned again? This is ridiculous!
It's time for decentralized exchanges or some regulated ones like coinbase or coming gemini.

And another exchange that got hacked? It's going to look like a domino effect.

Exchange after exchange gets hacked, it's ridiculous.

I only use BTC-E and Bitstamp, but even Bitstamp got hacked this year.

How long are we still going to leave our precious Bitcoins with these shitty exchanges.......

As above, can you give a link? Has it made to some crypto news site?

I only heard/checked that it is down, because I happened to log in and check here.

Guys history it's repeating over and over again!
don't hold your hard-earned coins on exchanges!
or study about your exchanges first

Whats happened with BTER ?

LOL. Another cryptomarket become a scam. It was with mtgox an it will be with every centralized service. Don't trust anyone with your bitcoins. It's as simple as that.

This is a message from BTER :

We have to suspend all our services waiting for the security check. More information will be released as soon as possible. Sorry for the interruption.

At this point there is an option. And that is storing your coins in your wallet.

But not the option that most people are keen with I think.

I have not really a technical background, but a lot people are talking about decentral exchanges, not sure how it works out.

If it stops hackers and thief CEO's it will be considered a forward step.

Quote
7170 BTC got stolen from our cold wallet in this transaction:

720 BTC bounty for chasing it back.

All wallets have been shut down and withdrawals of unaffected coins will be arranged later.

I guess the hacker will return it anyway and claim the bounty. Good solution for both.
