The coins are lost, the only thing BTER can do is to contact gambling sites, mixers, exchanges, etc, to not accept the coins, or simply freeze the coins once deposited.
Or the hacker can choose to return the coins in order to get a royal bounty, but that most likely won't happen.

I doubt they will be able to trade the hacker through this. No one could trace the MTgox coins. I doubt a hack of another exchange with 7K bitcoins will be traced easily.

Most likely someone in BTER stole them, not some "hacker".

never gonna used centralized exchange again. until we get full decentralized method. distributed exchanges are the safest for now. supernet / ripple.

Yeah, if it was really a cold wallet that's most likely. Another possibility would be unsafe generation of the cold wallet (compromised rng / spyware present), or somebody was able to obtain the private key by observing a manual transaction to a hot wallet. ya.ya.yo!

Another possibility would be unsafe generation of the cold wallet (compromised rng / spyware present), or somebody was able to obtain the private key by observing a manual transaction to a hot wallet. ya.ya.yo! That would be really bad news as it suggests that individuals have to have a super level of security to protect their own bitcoins, which makes bitcoin seem extremely difficult to use.

They should contact the Anonymous who will uphold justice. Anyway this could be an insider's job, the "hacker" knew how they handle the cold wallet.

Seems to be the case. I don't see any other way a cold storage being hacked.
