Hey guys,
I'm definitely new to the bitcoin scene, and im trying to work out some issues im having with bitcoind and namecoind, so i can try to earn both at the same time. I have the basic bitcoin client from bitcoin.org, as well as guiminer and namecoin from the dot-bit wiki. One of the issues im having is that whenever i run one of the daemons, the prompt comes up but i cant input any commands, and whenever i try to close the program i get the "This application has requestion the Runtime to terminate it in a usual way" message on the prompt, and that's it. I've tried running them both in Admin mode, but i get the same result. I easily could see it being i just messed something up when i tried putting namecoin in (it didnt make the .conf file, so i copied and changed some information from the bitcoin conf) or something else i've done. I've been trying to follow the InstallAndConfigure Namecoin wiki page, but when i try to use the command prompt to run namecoind.exe, i get the message "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file." I'm unable to bring up a second namecoind.exe (through a shortcut i created) to input commands, and it doesn't seem to be downloading blocks either. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Strategist

it sounds like you're not navigating to the folder where the executable is, to do so do this:
use the console/cmd prompt to navigate to where the namecoind executable is
if for example your namecoind is in C:\namecoin
you would open the console/cmd prompt and type in "cd C:\namecoin", and then you just type the name of the exe in and put in any parameters you want example (each line means you press enter at the end and then enter the next command)
cd C:\namecoin namecoind.exe --help

Ok, it SEEMS to be okay now, i just remade the CONF file and rebooted namecoind.exe. it's doing nothing (which the wiki says its fine), is it safe to assume its downloading the blocks? and if so how can i check the progress, or will the file path just pop up when its done? Also, ive been reading the command list for Namecoin, and is there a way to check the balance in the program once i start it, or should i just use the GUI i have for it? (havent tested it yet, want to wait until it finishes downloading the blocks, if that's what its doing)
Thanks for the help so far, i appreciate your willingness to answer the noobish questions =P, Strategist

http://dot-bit.org/InstallAndConfigureNamecoinwith namecoind already runing navigate to where the namecoind.exe is in another cmd prompt instance, enter namecoind.exe getinfo check for a match at http://explorer.dot-bit.org/stats/block_count.txt (if the number is lower it means namecoind has not finished downloading the blocks yet) if it matches, you can then begin entering the other commands (find your namecon address, generate a new address, etc) the same way.

Ok, thanks for the info, looks like it's about halfway done updating. also, would explorer also show my balance, or is there a different program/action that does that?
EDIT: WOW, ok i fail... looked around at the bitcoind commands and it has a getbalance command, and namecoind is pretty much the same thing, so it probably has one. alright, ignore my craziness above
