I am new to bitcoin so please excuse me if this is simple.
I purchase $6.40 worth of bitcoin from bitbargain.co.uk last week. After the purchase was transacted, I transferred it to my MultiBit wallet. It showed up in my wallet and I closed the wallet. Today, the wallet shows $0.00?
I just bought £81.00 worth of bitcoin from bitbargain.co.uk and now I am being asked to direct it to my wallet, but I don't know my MultiBit wallet address. I have logged into my MultiBit wallet but there's nothing telling me what the address is or where my $6.40 worth of bitcoin has gone?
Please help.

and why does anyone need a "wallet". It would be easier to copy and paste the bitcoin number/address to a notepad on my computer and be done with it.

You can find your multibit address under "Receive" tab. You also can create new addresses as many as you wish by clicking on "create new address" button

Hi. Owner of BitBargain - Bitcoin Marketplace here. One thing you could give a try (that has helped many people using Multibit before) is to find an option or feature called 'Reset blockchain'. Sometimes you have to do this for the coins to show up. May I mention that personally I have never used Multibit and didn't need to do anything similar with other Bitcoin software before. To see an alternative of bitcoin clients that may be easier to use and back up, see our wallet suggestion page: https://bitbargain.co.uk/bitcoin-walletsKind regards, btcfaucet

How did you manage to transfer the money to your Multibit wallet the first time, if you didn't know how to find the receiving address ?

In that way you'll save only your address; let's call it your public-key (even if it isn't exactly the same thing). If you want to spend the BTC you have on your address, you need to prove you're the real owner of that address. And you can prove it only by signing your transaction with the private key of that address. The wallet is mostly a collection of priv/public keys pairs. (more info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-key_cryptography)

You can find your multibit address under "Receive" tab. You also can create new addresses as many as you wish by clicking on "create new address" button The "Receive" tab showed my address when I first used the software, but now it shows nothing. It's as though I am not logged in, but I am.

See the image showing that I am logged in and the balance is $0.00, plus see that I have clicked "Request" but still don't have a receiver address. Multi-bit is terrible software, it's lost my money and is overly complicated to use. I am now using https://www.coinbase.com and it works much better. But, I still want my money from Multi-bit wallet, even though it's not much, it's the principle. http://www.weebly.com/editor/uploads/1/5/0/8/15080104/custom_themes/452420223859784893/files/multibit.jpg?1424168737251

you need to send (broadcast tx) your bitcoin with wallet, bitcoin address is only the address.

Try one of the following locations, remembering that you may need to enable hidden directories Windows (7,8): C:\Documents and Settings\username\AppData\Roaming\MultiBit Windows (XP and below): C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\MultiBit Use your computer's search tool to find ".wallet" and include hidden directories - you should see the automatically generated backups for bitwallet which may still have your funds.

Why would you send coins to a whole wallet when you can send it to a single address? :3 Well, you should have considered remembering or even taking note of your address before making a transaction. In that way, things like this could be prevented, and thus saving you money--and more importantly, time.

Sorry, but it looks to me that you re-installed the multibit wallet instead of just opening it from program files. This could have resulted in you over-writing your wallet, dat file. I had a similar experience on multibit and stopped using the same because that experience scarred me for life. I lost 0.05 but BTC was at $650 at the time and that was a big loss for me then. I have since switched to an online blockchain wallet and find it to be really convenient. You should try the armory wallet, apparently one of the best wallets you can find. Multibit has been quite painful in my experience. I have another wallet addy on multibit and i forgot the passkey, there goes 0.004 btc locked up forever .

How can people still be losing their Bitcoins after all this time? It's 2015, haven't people learned yet?

It is 2015, but newbies tend to run into these issues. I did when i was a newbie, took me some time to understand how stuff works. In 2014, when i jumped onto the bitcoin bandwagon, i had my share of mishaps / investment failures etc., but i got through it all. OP will also get through all this, its just a matter of time.

Bingo. And so many trust foreign exchanges like BTER in China which already had a bad rep. Gox had a bad rep long before they scammed the whole world . Why would you trust anyone who already has a bad image. Just unreal.

also to ease your mind. go to blockchain.info and in the searchbox enter the the bitcoin address you used to claim your bitcoin in first place. it will show you the "current" balance of that address so if you see your btcoins there rest assured it is just a problem with the block chain you have, you have to redownload it.
If you want to spend it without goignt hrough block chain download you can use Electrum instead.

you need it, for you private key, which is needed to retrieve your bitcoin, i think multibit, isn't newbie friendly anymore, it should be avoided new user should just dl the blockchain and sync bitcoin-core, i find it the best for starting
