also to ease your mind. go to blockchain.info and in the searchbox enter the the bitcoin address you used to claim your bitcoin in first place. it will show you the "current" balance of that address so if you see your btcoins there rest assured it is just a problem with the block chain you have, you have to redownload it.

If you want to spend it without goignt hrough block chain download you can use Electrum instead.

Solid info, I did not know this.  Thanks!

and why does anyone need a "wallet". It would be easier to copy and paste the bitcoin number/address to a notepad on my computer and be done with it.

you need it, for you private key, which is needed to retrieve your bitcoin,

i think multibit, isn't newbie friendly anymore, it should be avoided

new user should just dl the blockchain and sync bitcoin-core, i find it the best for starting
It is the best for newbies but the size of blockchain is another problem for them. Someone should make simple blockchain-qt lite.

The only online casino on which i won something. I made 17mBTC from 1mBTC in like 15 minutes.  This is not paid AD!

You might want to start with locating your money. You will need to know the public key address that the $6.40 was sent to. You can safely post it as no one can access your coins by knowing a public address. The balance of that address can be seen at https://blockchain.info/ simply enter the address in the search field and there you have it.
If your BTC is there. So far so good. Now you will need the private key that corresponds to that public key. Normally you don't see this key when spending and should not need it if your wallet is working properly. The wallet software does need this however. Without that key you will not be able to move your money.

I am new to bitcoin so please excuse me if this is simple.

I purchase $6.40 worth of bitcoin from bitbargain.co.uk last week. After the purchase was transacted, I transferred it to my MultiBit wallet. It showed up in my wallet and I closed the wallet. Today, the wallet shows $0.00?

I just bought £81.00 worth of bitcoin from bitbargain.co.uk and now I am being asked to direct it to my wallet, but I don't know my MultiBit wallet address. I have logged into my MultiBit wallet but there's nothing telling me what the address is or where my $6.40 worth of bitcoin has gone?

Please help.
Create new wallet in multibit, copy address from receive tab and send to it from bitbargain or whatever site u are using. Then wait for your coins in your wallet. Simple as that.
Make sure your computer is clean from malware and viruses.

Make sure your computer is clean from malware and viruses.

And make sure you've downloaded Multibit from reliable source. There's plenty of fake links to wallet-stealing softwares pretending to be Multibit.

Official website is multibit.org (not .com or anything else).

I have tried this. See the image showing that I am logged in and the balance is $0.00, plus see that I have clicked "Request" but still don't have a receiver address. Multi-bit is terrible software, it's lost my money and is overly complicated to use. I am now using https://www.coinbase.com and it works much better. But, I still want my money from Multi-bit wallet, even though it's not much, it's the principle.

This image isn't showing any wallets, there's nothing on the left panel...

Have you deleted it?

first check transaction history of your multibit wallet and see if they were received in this wallet
there are chances you have a different wallet open in your multibit client

<img>

From the image, it looks like Multibit is open, but it has not opened the wallet file yet (just like when you have Photoshop open, but you have not opened any image file with it)

Do this:
Go to File --> Open wallet
Then browse to C:\Users\username\App Data\Roaming\Multibit  ( assuming you're on Windows 7 or 8 )

There should be a "wallet.dat" file there.
Click on it and open it.

Do you see your Bitcoin balance now?

You can use my QUICKWALLET that I made which shows the balance of an address:

It has no access to your funds and it cannot move anything, its basically just a balance checker to keep track of your balances of every address you own  or just want to keep track of ex: satoshi's addresses

You must have transferred to an invalid address. If someone hacked your wallet at least it'll show up the transaction link.

Well there is 1 general rule when it comes to money: What is not in your hand is not yours.

Its promised to be yours so its a PROMISSARY NOTE or an IOU, but not real money. If you hold it at a safe location like offline wallet, and only you have access to it at any day or hour (given that you got internet and electricity) then it's yours.

If you keep it at a third party and they: steal it, scam it, server shuts down, glitch happense in their payment processing, their server gets hacked, or any other unpleasand thing happense, then its not your money, its only a promise, that they may or may not fill.

I heard that many online wallets dont keep 100% reserves, which is exactly what the current banking industry does, an accident waiting to happen lol Grin Like mt gox....

Weird how everybody chimes in to online wallet bashing while the poster asked specifically about two non-online wallets (mycelium and electrum) that keep wallet data (private keys) local while using online services to access the blockchain. These wallets are just as safe as a standard bitcoin-qt wallet but need much less data storage and transfer capacity. Of course they rely on external services to access the blockchain, but at least mycelium allows one to export private keys into some other wallet (don't know about electrum but I think it has similar features.)

True. It is better to keep your own funds yourself rather than trust other third-party sites to take care of them for you. Multiple saving of the files of your wallet is a lot safer than letting other people--even if they are a legitimate business or entity within the society--handle your money for you.

Online wallets are useful for small amounts of money (< $20). Also a multicurrency wallet is useful if you want to use altcoins.
And paperwallets are the best option for long term savings.
