Never in my time here have I ever witnessed such panic and delusion that goes on in this subforum. It really disgusts me thinking about the bitcoin technology, the greed of some people trying to cause fear, doubt
on the price. I hear calls of bulltrap and beartrap and all of these things. A few years ago this forum was full of happiness, helpfulness and love. Nowadays it seems   that we are over-run by shorters,
tenacious manner of beasties.

Learning about bitcoin has been an amazing experience, the ups the downs and working out how to communicate with all the different types of people on these forums. You have the seasoned and new folks looking
at their member profile. You have the trolls, shorters, assholes, scammers, posting absolute crap most of the time trying to lure people into their posts with some kind of hidden agenda waiting to pop out to try to
make people do something. I dont think anyone can say they are innocent here but certainly there are forum members who I respect, laugh at, and absolute despise. A meme with your comment is not sophistication.

Besides all this, I really believe that Bitcoin will be something that changes our society today. Initially I thought it would be something to do with how you can move money around the world easily in a trustable way,
can't imagine that much now. Sometimes I think it will be like high speed camera shots were to the in vitero egg process. They revolutionized it making it highly successful and reducing the costs. I am in a state of
happiness when it comes to Bitcon, its value now and its future untold value

Other people are not so optimistic and yes while this is a speculation forum, people will speculate positively to your position or negatively. The manner in which they do this is appalling, trolling/counter trolling etc
People are scum sometimes and I find this disheartening. Stupid unicorn memes, really?

This community deserves better, it once was a great place until all the greedy folk lost their money(NotLambchop at a guess). As a member sometimes I believe I should give back, shout back or plain do something
right. I do try to keep a light heart, and think of the upsides but more and more I feel like the lurkers, the long time holders, they early adopters, the geeks, the nerds, the dreamers and normal folk are persecuted
or downright dishonored by the likes of which post here.

Lambchop or not you should be ashamed of yourself, and the others who are out there need to listen up. We dont read your crap anymore, we put you on ignore or laugh incontrollably at your stupidity and secretly
lambaste your idiocy on these forums.

Explaining how I feel makes this a bit easier to deal with, BTC will rise and fall over time. Trend Analysis never ends, just how you look at the timescale. Past performance does not indicate how future performance
decides to go but it is fun and rewarding to guess and be right. All the other crap is on my ignore list Smiley BTC for the future, hodl till ya can hodl no more

I learned a shit load about TA reading this forum. I knew nothing about it beforehand. Now I may have figured out what CCMF was first but eventually the Fibonacci and macd stuff sunk in too. Not like that so much anymore.

Ignore is the best weapon. You wouldn't give them your attention in real life, why do it on a forum?

OP really told these trolls off big time. However, the trolls aren't here to scare any of the Bitcoin enthusiasts that have been here for a while, they're here to scare off lurkers or try to have some effect over when these people buy and sell. The trolls know most of us have had them on ignore for a long time and the new ones that show up and offer their true ridiculous sentiments right off the bat go on ignore as well. On one hand, I'm sure these guys have some small effect on the noob lurkers but then it's on them to do their own homework and decide if this is really what the enthusiasts believe it to be or whether it's all just crap. When choosing if and when to buy any Bitcoin, each person who's money is at stake needs to think for themselves cause only they know what kind of timeline they have to burn waiting for the market to change. No one can instill a steel stomach lining in people who are new to something and don't have the discipline nor the experience to participate in some revolutionary market like this. I can easily say to people, "buy, buy, buy no matter what" and while that would be good long term advice it would defeat the purpose of preparing someone to enter this market by allowing them to see the range of opinions and facts for themselves to judge what level of involvement that they can handle. It's the partial-Gavin approach. I will, however, offer my bullish opinions as part of the approval process for someone. Smiley

We are emotional animals, the drama is normal when you put money on the line. Over dramatizing things can also be pretty hilarious. For example saying that the only reason to not jump off a very tall building is due the hope of BTC reaching 10K in 10 years.

i am of the opinion that in an information society it is intellectually dishonest to yourself as well as financially irresponsible to ignore those with opposing viewpoints to whatever your opinions are ... it's the equivalent of jamming your fingers in your ears and yelling LALALALA anytime someone says anything that even slightly differs with your views ... to note I have not ever and will not ever ignore any user on this or any other forum ...

in as far as why people are so adamant / vicious / seemingly nuts in their posts ... whether in favor of or opposing bitcoin ... there are a few very good reasons and distinct differences that are likely motivators for the most fervent posts ...

- the people who truly believe in bitcoin the true true blind to all dissent believers , typically those involved from very early on and who have made lots of money and stand to lose a great deal of value in the event of continued devaluation at this juncture if they hold large quantities of coin , but who do think it will actually take over the global monetary system and be worth a dollar per satoshi / all goods will be priced only in bitcoin digits and theyll be rendered magnificently wealthy as a result and be able to upend all governments and existing wealth structures , will say pretty much anything they can to promote this viewpoint and fervently oppose anyone who challenges this - whether or not they were "early adopters" in single digits is irrelevant to some

- the people who aren't true believers but did stumble into it at an early stage and will say pretty much anything to convince others of the value and merit of bitcoin for the sake of fiat profit motive

- the people who stumbled across it at an early stage , acquired some , but made the unfortunate mistake of cashing out prior to massive price increase , or simply lost their coins for technical reasons or from theft , and will say pretty much anything in the hopes they can convince themselves / others of the illegitimacy / incorrect price of bitcoin either in hopes of buying in extremely low at or at least closer to where they sold out hoping this would somehow allow them to take part in the hyper early adopter profits they missed out on or just outright wishing for bitcoin to fail out of shame and spite

- the people who stumbled across it at an early stage , did not acquire any , ignored it from that point until some later point in time , saw the massive price increase from when they could have bought it , and will say anything to bash bitcoin out of spite , with some of this group who have now acquired some hoping they can still experience insane profits and will act as cheerleaders for bitcoin even though they haven't made it big they still hope to

- the people who came across bitcoin within the last year to year and a half , put a lot of money in , and got burned badly by holding and have lost significant amounts of money / had their lives ruined / have been outright robbed by one of the numerous hacks/thefts/exchange closures/etc , will either be bashing the hell out of bitcoin for losing them lots of money , or they will desperately say anything they can in the hopes it will actually convince others of a greater than current value in hopes they can recover any of their extreme losses or eventually make a profit

- the people who truly believe bitcoin is a complete sham being intentionally run by a tiny group of individuals who have effectively carried out the greatest ponzi / monetary theft in history and genuinely believe that bitcoin will eventually be proved to be such , and they genuinely want to warn others off in an honest attempt to save others from financial ruin - they have typically either not invested at all or have lost some small amount of money in bitcoin at some point along the line

- the people who oppose it based on it's ability to facilitate drug use / illicit pornography / violence / etc

basically the fanatics on either side pro and con for bitcoin either have made tons of money and want to continue to do so and or protect their current value , are anarchists who hope to see the downfall of governments and world currencies , missed out on extreme profits for one reason or another , have incurred serious losses for one reason or another , or genuinely feel bitcoin is a scam or has become or been used as a scam in some form or another and or feel a moral obligation to protect others from it ...

Well at times these trolls do make you laugh. It's just whether you want to buy into what they say but I believe those who did were the ones who don't really understand the fundamental and future of bitcoin. If only everybody thinks positively these trolls will find themselves wasting their time for nothing.

I have read threads from the early years that were full of trolls. I'm not so sure this forum's any different now than it was in 2011. Maybe there are more members now, but the content of their posts doesn't seem much different to me.

With the only difference that in 2011 the bitcoin large scale pump&dump had barely started and the bubble hadn't bursted yet  Undecided

bitcoin pumps&dumps ≠ bitcoin is a great investment

<snip>

"There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda... You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.…
And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

Generally, I (and most here) would probably agree with you.  But when we're talking about OBVIOUS Trolls...they go on ignore.  There's literally not enough time to sort through all their dribble to get to intellectually honest opinions, which can be Bullish or Bearish in nature as all markets have their cycles.  But anyone who comes on here for hours upon hours every day to tell you that Bitcoin is a waste of time, worthless and is crashing to zero....and they're telling you this on a Bitcoin Forum....yeah, those people go on ignore.  There's literally no rational discussion that can take place with them, after all, they're wasting all their time in a forum that they're telling you is a waste of time.  It is absolutely Shocking to me when people can't see the obvious agenda at work

Jaredboice put me on ignore as I provided a link to a website that transfers money across the world without using bitcoin, to point out that the price of this alternative service (and others like it) is quite cheap (and much lower than the banks).
He was so angry that I provided this data, he put me on ignore. The data suggested that the consumer value from using bitcoin was not as great as if compared to the cost of using traditional banking services.

His comment above should be judged in light of this.

I haven't been on here much since the price fell from c.350 to c.200. I notice that there are now fewer bears on here, but also fewer people in general. In particular, there seem to be fewer new people asking questions about bitcoin. Just to a few diehard bulls and bears of yesteryear.

Is there some way of measuring activity on this site?

Funny.

Almost as funny as the 4 ignored troll posts that are directly above your post.  I'm not kidding.  I can't read what they're saying since I have no desire to remove them from ignore, but it appears that a nerve had been struck Smiley
