Hey guys Smiley

What is happening everywhere !

As 2015 started i see only hacked bitcoins thread !

There are some possibilities !

Wallets are not so secured!
Exchanges stealed money and saying that they are hacked !
Hackers got much knowledge to how to hack bitcoin addresses i mean they learnt much about private keys !

Tell me which is right statement ?👈

Also if hackers are clever enough then thts for them 🔫

Guys some news about stealing ! If anyone have any news let me know will add at top Smiley

http://observer.com/2015/02/bitcoin-crime-wave-breaks-out-in-nyc/  damn.... stay safe guys!

"A New York City firefighter named Dwayne Richards was recently held up, stabbed and robbed by thieves who were after his bitcoin, the Observer has learned. From what we’ve discovered, Mr. Richards—who is a firefighter in lower Manhattan—was mugged and left bleeding after meeting the robbers under the pretense of exchanging bitcoin for cash in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He’s alive, well, and refusing comment.

"

Edit for clarification: Be careful meeting anyone and doing business with them, especially if they know you carry large amounts of value on your person, be it BTC/Money/Material items.

The moment you are trying to do something with Bitcoin, beside hiding it in a paper wallet in a safe, you put yourself in danger to get robbed. After you have been robbed everyone in here will laugh at you, coz it´s your fault and not Bitcoins....  Smiley

I couldn't agree more with you RodeoX.
Also , Most of exchangers that are getting shutted down (after getting hacked) are China based exchange website which I found it where , Either a CHinese hacking team taking them down one after the other or the goverment trying to find some kind of reasons to shutdown and ban Bitcoin for ever .
Also some exchangers simply don't use Multisig which means less protection for them.

Thats just another possible scenario also .
I mean , everyone can invst shitload of money and make developpers create an exchange and at the end of the day and when the exchanger become successfull , they can simply go to their host , make an HTML Page saying "We got hacked , bye bye ". and it's all done . No one can proove anything or say anything about it .

It really makes it hard. As you say, we have nothing but their word when there is a claim of hacking. I do think most of them are hacks though. Criminals are going to be attracted to digital money that the police don't even understand. It is a crime that one can get away with.

Just yesterday there was a report about online bank robberies, Apparently one group has stolen almost a billion dollars in the last year. A billion!

Yes well , it can be hacks and it can be not hacks . We will never though But you got a point too . Anyway can get away with scamming or hacking Bitcoin and that's why some people are taking Bitcoin as a bad thing which is sad to be honest
And yes , I know about that incident . I also posted about it on the Politics and Society section , you can see more about it here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=959915.0

As long as there's no regulatory committee, framework, or bylaws to govern Bitcoin exchanges, then this will continue to happen by shady exchange operators.

Although regulation goes against the general idea of centralized authority, in this case, it is necessary, as Bitcoin won't move on from the "Wild Wild West phase" in it's developement.

Need to continue to grow and learn from all these mistakes and broken exchanges, to progress to more reputable, trustworthy, and licensed exchanges, to truly legitimize Bitcoin.

In any case the bold part is not true because it defies mathematics. Apart from that, yes wallets are not so secured, because sometimes the random value is not so random or for Tx k is being re-used. That is why Multisig wallets are coming in place. Moreover, as some people have already pointed out, people should really come out of the idea of share market type bitcoin exchange. As long as people do this, these hacks will continue as exchanges will push FAKE BITCOINs in the economy and if price does not rise, they'll go bankrupt and claim to get hacked.

At the end of the day, you need to change a few old FIAT habits while you are using a superior system like Bitcoin. Bitcoin is not hacked. It is your poor choice that is being exploited.

Exchanges are casino's and online wallets are like a wallet in your pocket (could be virtually pick-pocketed)... (analogy)

Never Lose a Coin w/ GigaBit - The Superhero Who Never Lost a Coin & Still Mines Profitably - Since 2012!!  Grin

Become a hacker's (and banker's) worst nightmare in less than 1 minute!

  • Withdrawal Every EoTD (End of Trading Day)
  • Download the Core on a Standalone Computer - Only connect it to Sync
  • Use a very strong password that you can easily remember - Hint: $ = Money, @ = at, & = and, # = Hashing - Use caps & numbers too
  • Always double check addresses

Important: Paper wallets are overrated, so many things can go wrong, especially in a busy office.

If you're a pro miner, you should have a standalone mini and should only use wallet cores, no light versions; same if you're a trader.

Trade with AltCoins rather than Bitcoins.

Do everything as stated above and you're 99.99% guaranteed to never lose a coin either; in gold refining, there is no better than 99.99% but still a 0.001% chance of an accident.

It's not about hacking, it's about people taking their security on low weight and then they cry after they get jacked but they password was 12345.
