"A New York City firefighter named Dwayne Richards was recently held up, stabbed and robbed by thieves who were after his bitcoin, the Observer has learned. From what we’ve discovered, Mr. Richards—who is a firefighter in lower Manhattan—was mugged and left bleeding after meeting the robbers under the pretense of exchanging bitcoin for cash in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He’s alive, well, and refusing comment. " Edit for clarification: Be careful meeting anyone and doing business with them, especially if they know you carry large amounts of value on your person, be it BTC/Money/Material items.

Well this shouldn't be anything special. It would have been the same if they had taken 8.5k in cash.
Actually the cash would be harder to trace to the thieves.
Why would someone store $8.5k in a single wallet?

Oh my, I hope he is safe. People are so cruel for cash and it's horrible to see such inhumanity  It's much better not to store so much BTC in your account and keep making transactions to be safe. |

Where did he meet them? It just says 'secure location'. Can't imagine getting stabbed in the middle of Starbucks. I guess these crimes are going to become more common as it's like taking candy from a baby when you set the person up. I'd suggest only meeting in very public places with lots of surveillance cameras and that should deter thieves.

Great point. Requiring it be some place in public with cameras shouldn't be a bad thing. I would think only those who have bad intentions would be against that. |

Bitcoin is for safety purposes and selling it is no illegal , if you're selling for cash , keep the trading amount in hot wallet , with little more than needed and be safe

he was going to exchange it live, that doesnt matter. Actually it does matter. I know no one can steal our bitcoin from us without us giving them the password and identifier but revealing to someone the amount we have , is not pretty good deal in my eyes |
