oh I get him, he is already a billionaire and has no plans to become one with a Bitcoin, also he is not a fanatic, the blockchain can be used to create better money than Bitcoin.

It's the establishment trying to find a message to cling onto, since cryptocurrencies never fit into anything they try to spin and they've never seen something like this before they fumble over it constantly.

Maybe he's finding his way.  A lot of these guys are not in finance.  Just because they're billionaires doesn't make them an expert on everything.  That's the weird fallacy that simple-minded humans keep falling into.  Even we do it when popular people say nice things about Bitcoin.  Elon Musk trash talked Bitcoin originally as well.  Said it wasn't going to do well without regulation.  But you have to take into account the life experience of the speaker.  Elon works with a government Agency (NASA) on a daily basis, building things that must be excruciatingly regulated and controlled by checks and balances so that people don't die.  He's all about government regulation, government help, and not doing things recklessly.  So for *him* ... such concepts are negatives.  And he speaks (without knowing) accordingly about Bitcoin.

I think overall he likes the concept of bitcoin, but wants to make something better which even the poor can use on a cellphone.

For the record, Bill Gates no longer has any real control over his own company, so Microsoft can pretty much do what it likes since it is publicly traded.

Why do you say the poor can't use bitcoin on their cellphones, if they can make a call and download a free app they can use it.

Well I don't believe for a second Bill Gates has 0 power on Microsoft even if he left.

But yeah most likely he wasnt there about the Bitcoin adoption. He wants his own coin..

Bill Gates hasn't been an innovator since the eighties, who gives a shit what he thinks? The man is an anti-competitive business shark parasite with a great PR team, nothing more.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

Maybe because not all cell phones can download apps. (Shocking to know those types of cell phones still exist right?) lol

Has already been posted. Bill Gates wants BTC regulated and non anonymous.

There are also users that agree with him, me included. Bitcoin surpassed the original idea, i dont see any breakthrough on world market without it being anything but regulated and non anonymous.
There will allways be workarounds u can take probablly, but the majority of users must entitled to regulation and therefore , some safety.

cheers

One can like things the same as dislike them. I think Gates uses to show what he dislikes, then tries it, things more about it to later share what he likes about something.

When you're a retired multi billionaire former co-founder of a tech giant, you usually don't keep your ear to the grindstone as close as you used to as evidenced with Gates.

He's busy doing other projects, especially not for profit ones with his wife in the poorest of nations.  Things like this is what he's all about now:

http://www.gatesnotes.com/Development/Omniprocessor-From-Poop-to-Potable

I think he's too busy turning poop into drinking water for poor countries like Africa to offer a valid interview or perspective on Bitcoin or digital currencies.

If Bitcoin matures to grown currency status, you can believe Gates will toot Bitcoin's horn every chance he gets, especially since it'll help his humanitarian efforts.

I didn't know this, thanks for the information.

In this case it will be difficult to "regulate" bitcoin as currency, it was borned decentralized and "free" so no one at the end can regulate it ; it will be impossible.

If you listen closely to all his videos.. you will find the answer.  Wink

1. He likes the concept.
2. He does not like the anonymity
3. He would like to see this being implemented, but with their own crypto coin.
4. Bitcoin has a bad reputation.. {Link to terrorist funding}

He is after all a US citizen and they have to adhere to all the KYC and AML laws of the country.... The bigger companies have close ties to government and will lose out on huge government tenders, if they do not adhere to the laws of the country.

There you have it.... You will see a "Ripple" like coin coming out soon, adopted and supported by Microsoft.  Wink

Also the "cash" can be used for "bad purposes". Should we ban them? I think the answer is : no, we shouldn't.
