For me it does not matter .... From Massmart to the mom and pop shop around every corner... they should ALL accept it.
What we are seeing now is HUGE companies accepting it, but they using payment processors to convert it all back to fiat. {To me.. that is not true adoption .. They just jumped on a opportunity to make some extra profit with lower fees and a new source of income}
A true adopter for me, is a company like Overstock, who incentivize the use of bitcoin with special discounts and even paying salaries in BTC... {They do not just take from it, they try to grow and improve it}
Yes the acceptance come with free exposure.... and that is great.. but how much will it really take to offer a discount on one or two really popular items, when people pay with Bitcoin? They already cash in on the lower fees... why not pay back some of that in the early stages to incentivize and increase the use of that payment method.
The smaller shops, selling bread and milk, will be a great target market.... The normal people in Greece already said, they would adopt this currency, when they can buy their daily grocceries at the shop around the corner.... and I agree... when we can fill our tank at the gas station with Bitcoin, we would be in a better position, than having the option to buy a expensive camera on eBay.
