obviously theres something wrong with your sources, because such action would result in WW3 within days.
Its more like political war, economical and similar methods they use when it comes to sizable enemy, Russia is not Iraq, they can defend them selves against US, but niether side wants a war, because they would be both loosers in the end, allowing a chance for third parties to come to more power.

McCain: "I'm ashamed of my country" over Ukraine

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said Sunday that the U.S. handling of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine represents a "shameful" chapter of American history.

"I'm ashamed of my country, I'm ashamed of my president and I'm ashamed of myself that I haven't done more to help these people," McCain said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation."

He also had harsh words for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, whom McCain said "legitimized for the first time in 70 years the dismemberment of a country in Europe."

Merkel and Hollande helped broker a recent cease-fire between Ukraine and Russian-backed rebels in the eastern part of the country. The tenuous agreement has been violated several times already and is at risk of collapsing entirely.

McCain is one of the U.S. lawmakers who is pushing President Obama to provide the Ukrainian military with lethal weapons so it can extract a higher cost on Russia for territorial incursions.

"The Ukrainians aren't asking for American boots on the ground; that's not the question here. They're asking for weapons to defend themselves and they are being slaughtered and their military is being shattered," McCain said. "Some of the best Russian special forces are there and they will continue this aggression for as long as they can get away with it...[Russian President] Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine not to be part of Europe and he is succeeding in doing so."

At a news conference with Merkel earlier this month, Mr. Obama said he has not yet made a decision on whether to send lethal weapons to the Ukrainian military but followed Merkel in continuing to call for a diplomatic resolution.

Why would anybody want to invade Russia?
-big army, that would take a lot of time and resources to defeat
-a lot of terrain, low temperatures and harsh conditions, a perfect place for guerilla forces to hide and fight.
-a lot of nuclear weapons and I bet if Russians started losing the conventional war they wouldn't hesitate to use their whole arsenal even on their own soil.

So much fail in one statement. First, you'll discover that there are quite a lot of people here interested in a multi-polar view on events. Second, you are obviously NOT watching Russian TV. If you did, you'd know that USA gets a rather small share of air time, on par with Finland or Italy. It is rather arrogant and self-centered of you to think that they in Russia have nothing better to talk about than USA. The fact that Russian TV does pay some attention to Novorossia is easy to explain - it's a hotspot right on the Russian border, populated by Russians and having belonged to Russia for many centuries. It would have been strange if Russia didn't cover the events there.

Now, to the OP question. The chance that USA would attack Russia militarily is minuscule. USA is much more comfortable waging a proxy war in Ukraine. The only problem for it is that Russia refused to come to that war, so USA are left with fighting against civilians there, and losing to them. Well, an expected outcome of Vietnam 2.0

On the other hand USA has long ago started another war against Russia - an rather vicious economic one, with all the sanctions, ratings and oil prices.

Last I checked it was USA that started the "revolution", or more correctly a coup d'etat, in Ukraine. Btw, USA/Great Britain already tried with a revolution in Russia - once successfully in 1917, and the other time less so - Bolotnaja revolt in Moscow. And they are trying now with the economic warfare, which aim is to create a social unrest in Russia.

I think it started several years ago in ways Russians don't like to admit and are actually staunchly against.  The hard party line is anti-Western.  They want everything "Russian" even though they love our rock music and painted on jeans.

I watch Russian TV ( 1Channel, not RussianTV on USA network) and you are lying. USA is constantly in the news and is shown as aggressor and the cause of everything that is wrong in the world and Russia.
