I talked to a few people, and am going to try to setup ~5-10 Lync accounts to see how people like it.

I sent you the info, and I listed the clients that I've used before; but, I haven't used a Mac.
Does Messages have SSL encryption?

yes it does and even supports kerberos 5 auth so it is pretty niffy
