This thread is just like the title says. It is a Bitcoin donation chain letter. Bitcoin technical details, like how to buy and sell bitcoins, have been omitted here. Most of the people in the Bitcointalk.org forum know lots about Bitcoin, how to get wallets, where to buy and sell bitcoins, how to do transfers, and so on. At a later date, I may add an actual sample letter for forum members to use with folks who are not yet "within" the Bitcoin realm.

What really is a chain letter? A chain letter is an avenue for donating and receiving donations.

Imagine that you are running some kind of charity that accepts donations. If donations are your only source of funding, your charity just might depend on the good will of other people. So, the question asks itself. Why not be your own charity? After all, you have needs and desires, and bills and expenses, same as any formal charity, right? You probably have a job where you earn money, but so do many of the charity workers and recipients, besides pay and donations they might receive from the charity operation. So, again. Why not be your own charity?

I invite you to donate to the charities on my list below, and to my personal charity, as well. I also invite you to post your personal charity list as I have mine, right here, in this thread. Remember, the number of donations that come to you, basically revolves around how many people you bring to the forum, and to this thread.

Obviously, anyone can use this thread in any way they want. But here is what I am asking. Below are five (5) Bitcoin addresses. The operation that I am asking works like this:
1. Donate 0.1 bitcoins (a tenth of a bitcoin) to each of the 5 addresses listed below;
2. Make your own new post in this thread, and copy and paste these 5 Bitcoin addresses, in order, into your own new post.
BUT... before you actually post it, remove the top address from the list of 5, and add your own, unique, Bitcoin address to the bottom of the list, so that you have a total of 5 Bitcoin addresses in your list;
3. Add a reason, a statement that explains why people should donate to your Bitcoin charity address list rather than someone else's, be it in this thread or elsewhere. Your reasons might include that the unique Bitcoin address you used belongs to some official charity that you are part of. If this is that case, talk about your charity;
4. Then post. Hopefully, people will like your statement and use your donation address list to keep the chain going.

That's it. Simple, right? Next, let me list my 5 Bitcoin donation addresses that you will hopefully send to. Then I will show where I got the first four addresses (the fifth is mine).

The first Bitcoin address that I sent to, the address that I removed from the top of the above, list, is 1FuWg8j1Yuio84b2M4bfsguYhpJx2jWytg, from the website http://www.wikileaks.org/, Wikileaks. You won't see this address listed on their donation page, because the addresses are automatically regenerated every time someone goes to their donation page.

The second Bitcoin address that I sent to (really the first on my list, above), 16TvNewZsFDPKiBAUB5A3oHD5a1WcwK19J, is listed on the website http://abolitionistlawcenter.org/. The Abolitionist Law Center (ALC), is working to turn injustice in our legal systems back into justice.

The third Bitcoin address that I sent to (really the second on my list, above), 12fMNuitfn6psFXDpYEvAwhCRjTC4rY6Ky, is listed on the website http://www.springvalleyassemblyofgod.org/. This is an Assembly of God church in Las Vegas, called Peace Way Christian Center, one of the first to accept Bitcoin donations.

The fourth Bitcoin address that I sent to (really the third on my list, above), 1L2RxxQhp5VTGXq7YzsT5f6iNRTmfSR4Zy, is listed on the website http://www.withoutregrets.org/. The foundation is called Without Regrets Foundation. Donations are handled by Bitpay. Because donations are handled by Bitpay, the Bitcoin address will probably be different than the one listed on the Bitpay page, because Bitpay makes new addresses for first-time donations.

The fifth Bitcoin address that I sent to (really the fourth on my list, above), 1LMKbELFwFZDPj9HCaWWvLrMcJaaS43Qm9, is listed on the website http://mmsnews.is/, about a third of the way down the page. By the way, I use MMS, and I think it's great!

And, obviously, the sixth Bitcoin address (really the fifth on my list, above), 1HoBLGfdM8Jwkwok21gg3AvnnsvrbEBUMf, is mine.

There you have it. If you have questions or ideas, post them. If there is something I think would make this simple Bitcoin chain letter thread better, I will add it. Obviously, you can make your own chain letter or even chain letter thread.

Again, my list that I ask you to send a tenth of a bitcoin donation to each one is:

16TvNewZsFDPKiBAUB5A3oHD5a1WcwK19J
12fMNuitfn6psFXDpYEvAwhCRjTC4rY6Ky
1L2RxxQhp5VTGXq7YzsT5f6iNRTmfSR4Zy
1LMKbELFwFZDPj9HCaWWvLrMcJaaS43Qm9

So in the end, you will get 0.5BTC free of cost. Next guy will pay 0.5 and get it back if he is lucky. Last 4 will lose 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4BTC in order.

No one in the right mind will play this game. Tongue

Were you just trolling?

Looks like just another ponzi to me. But no one would be stupid to even do it.

It is actually worse.

You have risk but 0 profit. Just calculate, you pay 0.5BTC, wait, and if you are lucky you get 0.5BTC back!
Does he think we are dumb?

He indeed made quite an effort writing all these things while trolling Wink

Well, there are some people who thinks this idea is actually profitable to them. It looks pretty good at confusing people.

He is probably just posting this as he already has the negative trust and wouldn't mind more.

Read the details:
1) He is asking for donations to several good causes.
2) You don't "just hope to get your money back", if honest people 'actually fall for it' then you can make a large profit (in theory), since your address is sent to a bigger and bigger number of people.

EDIT:
"Real" chain letters are forwarded to a group of 5 or more people, so your address eventually is seen by a "huge" number of 'suckers'.

It is ponzi and people those will join later will be looser as usual as happens in ponzi of this kind. Just early adopters will win something.

You are wrong.
1) If you read it, you will know that the top address is removed.
So, his address will appear 5 times and all those donations will appear less number of times than his. That is he makes sure that he gets maximum profit out of this than anyone else.
If you want to donate do it directly to those who need it. Not like this.  Undecided

2) There is no bigger amount of people. Only 5 maximum.

I edited my post above since this is not set up in a way that will work well:
"Real" chain letters are forwarded to a group of 5 or more people, so your address eventually is seen by a "huge" number of 'suckers'.
You are correct, I missed some details with a quick first read.
