Are boys / men interested in Bitcoin ?
Your opinion ?
I would go so far as to say that it is
mostly boys and men who use Bitcoin. Females are definitely underrepresented in the Bitcoin community - probably for many of the same reasons why are they are also underrepresented in the tech community as well. Men outnumber women greatly in Silicon Valley and even the ones there face a substantial pay gap compared to their male peers. I recently went to a computer science class in college where we learned programming and I'd say 90 percent of the students were male (although interestingly, the lecturer was a female).
Bitcoin is complex. Bitcoin is technical. Bitcoin represents the intersection of computer science, finance, and (arguably) politics. And it's usually men who are attracted to those fields.
That being said, it's also interesting to note that females actually outnumber males when it comes to social networking sites (53% vs 47%). Perhaps that could offer some insight into ways to make Bitcoin more popular among girls and women.
EDIT: And for those who say that the gender of the person doesn't matter, well I agree but Bitcoin needs to be as widespread as possible for it to reach its full potential so if there is a huge chunk of society that is being neglected by the Bitcoin community's efforts to encourage widespread adoption, then perhaps the issue deserves some attention. Ideally, Bitcoin should be used by boys, men, girls, and women. It should also be used by polysexuals, dogs, AIDS patients, and M2F transsexuals.
