It's probably already been suggested but in regards to a discussion about this bitcoin forum, it would be cool to have a "like" button per-post rather than replying to a post to simply say I like what you said. I don't think it should be used as any sort of ranking or to serve as a valuable/farmable commodity of how many "likes" any post gets... just mean it as a way to cut down on the unnecessaries.

It would just be a simple mod that I am sure there are hundreds of for SMF boards. I think we should just give it a go for a month as it would be free and I don't see any major harm it could do.

The idea has been proposed and shot down in the past, people that get too caught up on whether their posts will be popular or unpopular end up censoring themselves.

Yeah. So people won't clutter the thread with "+1" and stuff like that. +1 btw

IMHO I don't like this idea, simply because I don't want to see this board turning into facebook. Where people choose to pay seo's to buy likes just to gain popularity.

If a person's post is 'Liked', it shouldn't go up or down. People also buy trust feedback. Does that mean trust system should be removed? No! I like this because we can avoid all one word posts - '+1', 'thanks' etc... -MZ

We don't need this. To many people have a image neurosis. Spam could be avoided by adding a simple system. For example a post must have 100+ characters or it posts without signature...

I don't think it was 'shot down' exactly but there are arguments for and against it. I think the positives outweigh the negatives though. Yeah. So people won't clutter the thread with "+1" and stuff like that. +1 btw Agreed. It would cut down on these posts, which usually get deleted, but it also lets others know your appreciation of their help or contribution without having to type 'thanks' or whatever.

If you're right and this is happening then the trust system should be removed as well.

How can it not be bought? It's not that hard to do but those caught will likely get negative themselves or lose credibility. If you're right and this is happening than the trust system should be removed as well. Don't be silly. Judges, police, athletes, politicians and everyone else can be bought too, does that mean we need to get rid of them and dismantle society too? No, you do your best to make sure it doesn't happen and punish those that are caught, but instances will slip through the net occasionally.

Well this certainly increases my confidence in the trust system. I wonder now though how many people who have green under their name are from real feed-backs and not bought ones.

The feedback system is there as a guide for you to make your own mind up on and is not a definitive or foolproof system. Just because someone has lots of feedback doesn't automatically make them trustworthy. You should look at the feedbacks on a case by case basis and see who they got them from and for what and that can help you make your mind up on that person, but as I said, it's just a guide to help you do so.

I understand and you're right. I think the easiest way to buy trust would be to buy an old account with +ve trust, or do fake trades/giveaways or give out loans. So in the eyes of the community you'd look like a generous and reputed person.

Yeah, because people here don't buy accounts so they can have better signature campaigns. Not at all.

Yeah, because people here don't buy accounts so they can have better signature campaigns. Not at all. Fine, if that's what everybody wants, let's do it. Let's make a "Like" button and see what incredible good it brings to the forum for without it we are all suffering from all the non-substantial posts and it will miraculously stop them. In fact why stop there let's bring in the reddit's karma (upvote & downvote) feature.

A person has to be in your trust network first to be able to make an impact on another person's trust ratings. If a newbie posts trust feedbacks without references, then everyone will know that it's an obvious scam.

Nobody is saying it will revolutionise anything but it's a barbless addition in my opinion.

Because if I have the right to show my appreciation for a post, I should also have the right to show that I don't like a post.
