I am not sure that cnn would pick it up, but most btc related media outlets have already picked up the story. They really haven't been able to pick up anything that is not already public though.

The fact that China does not think highly of bitcoin and that the ability to pursue a judgment in china is a joke at best, I doubt that anyone will see any of their money again

Yes - this isn's like Enron, where millions of people were effected. We're only talking about a few thousand people, tops. That is not a CNN worthy story.

It's a story about a few thousand people investing through an unregulated platform, buying unregistered securities in a Chinese "company", all of who's management is anonymous. Mention those facts to CNN, CNBC or any other mainstream news outlet, and they'll tell you how the story ends without you needing to use your breathe. Not to mention, they'ed need to explain Bitcoin to their audience (again), they'ed have to explain mining, and they'd have to explain cloud mining.... there are just too many details for a story which impacted relatively few people, and which, again, they would look at as being entirely predictable.

BFL impacted far more people, most likely, and I don't recall them ever benig mentioned on the television news... Might have had a small story on one of their websites, but that is it...

No doubt, it's an interesting story, and its real gut punch to us (the bitcoin community), seeing one of the formerly most trust names go south. But it's just not a story for the mainstream national news.

I think BFL was mentioned when they were shut down by the government (but I am not even 100% sure about this).

I would say the chances of the story being picked up by the MSM would increase dramatically if it turned out that either FC or some other exec was actually kidnapped
