For what it's worth, this is the last coin of this type that I'll be selling on the forums. If you're a PGP doc sort of person, this may be your final opportunity!

No longer buying/selling Casascius coins. Beware scammers.

I would be very surprised to see this coin fetch anything higher than 10BTC.

Nubbins what were you originally asking for it in the goods section? I can't remember.

Side note: Mike did respond about PGP docs for my coins so xmas is coming soon lol

I would be very surprised to see this coin fetch anything higher than 10BTC.

Nubbins what were you originally asking for it in the goods section? I can't remember.

Asking price: 25 BTC
Incidentally,

If there was a way to make a wager against this selling for 5 BTC or more, I would for surely accept that.
...
Your coin and its rarity is worth 2.5-3.5 BTC tops.

Both series-2 silvers have been sold, for 13.5 BTC each.

And as a further public service announcement, free of charge to the good folks of the Marketplace sub...

This is as good a time as any to remind people how numismatics are priced.

SALE PRICE = (FACE VALUE) + (NUMISMATIC VALUE) + (SELLER'S PREMIUM)

Notice the lack of multiplication symbols; statements such as "2x face" or "10x face" have no meaning and no place in numismatics.

The FACE VALUE for a Casascius coin would be the value of the BTC stored within, plus the spot value of any precious metals.

The NUMISMATIC VALUE is an absolute value based solely on the desirability of the coin. This generally correlates with mintage, age, and condition, but other factors can be at play here as well.

The SELLER'S PREMIUM varies from seller to seller, based on a number of factors including the seller's trustworthiness, care in packaging, supporting documentation or certifications, and other factors.

The biggest point to make here is that with all other things being equal, FACE VALUE and NUMISMATIC VALUE have no bearing on one another.

No longer buying/selling Casascius coins. Beware scammers.

As we can see for more than a year, BTC and LTC physical coin from Casascius and Lealana are really a good way to store currency and to make (a really good) profit !  Shocked

Ummm, what?

Not so sure about that.

Buying a Casascius 25BTC even for as low/high as 27 a year ago would have cost you about $21,000.
If you were to redeem it, or even sell for a profit at 28, that would be worth (as of right this minute) only $7,000.

So, I wouldn't call it a store of currency or value, but moreover a store of bitcoins.  No profit yet.

This auction will add some more data to my "price of casascius coins in btc is unaffected by usd/btc rate" theory... one way or another.

Casascius coins (as goods) are really in front when it comes to separation from fiat.
BTC goes up and down all year around - but it does not significantly affect the price of Casascius coins in terms of BTC.
I love it <3

Honestly Casascius coins were selling for the highest markup when BTC was between 700.00 - ATH. It almost seems like the higher the prices go for BTC the better the prices on these coins.

You'll see the sucker premium steadily decrease over time. Remember when someone bought a 2011 error for 50 btc?

It was unique though ... graded 67 (only error to get 67 so far), and it was a first day coin to boot. But yep, I would sooner have 50 BTC than that coin .... well, I'd sooner have both
