Thorbjoern Jagland, a former Norwegian premier, drew criticism after becoming committee chairman in 2009 for awarding the prestigious Nobel to newly elected US President Barack Obama. He will be replaced by current Deputy Chair Kaci Kullmann Five.

The Nobel Peace Prize awarding Norwegian Nobel Committee on Tuesday elected a new chairman to replace Thorbjoern Jagland, whose six-year tenure has been lined with controversies.

Jagland will remain a member of the voting panel but was a contentious leader, attracting criticism for his dual role as committee chairman and head of the European Council when the prize was awarded to the European Union in 2012. His leadership also was clouded by the decision to give the prize to Barack Obama in 2009 after he had just been elected president, and the 2010 prize to the jailed dissident Liu Xiabo drew fury from China.

The former labor politician was replaced by the panel's deputy chairman, Kaci Kullmann Five, a former conservative party leader. She denied that Jagland's ousting had anything to do with pressure from China, which froze diplomatic ties to Norway after the 2010 award.

She did not deny that his ousting had anything to do with Obama who has since the aware become a neo-con warhawk, who has put some of the most bloodthirsty republicans to shame, and whose actions (and lack thereof) have led to not only global conflict intensity spiking To a 7-year high, but have generated untold riches to the shareholders of the military industrial complex.

This a good step to regain trust of those that consider the Nobel prize as something legitimate in the antiwar world. What a fraud it became for some time. I'm surprise no foreigners haven't rejoiced at this yet. Personally, I think the fraud should have to repay his prize times 10 and the awarder should pay half.

Why not then deprive Obama of his Nobel peace prize and demand the indemnification for the incurred reputational damage?

Though the Nobel peace prize is an oxymoron by itself.

Misleading title. He was not demoted because of the 2009 award to Obama. In fact, no specific reason was stated at all, but people speculate based on all the controversial awards since his election as chairman: Obama in 2009, Liu Xiabo in 2010 which enraged China, and the EU in 2012 (amidst an apparent conflict of interest for Jagland). Note that the conclusion a biased site like zerohedge draws from the fact that Jagland's successor denied that Jagland was replaced due to pressure from China is that she did not deny that he was replaced for any other reason (probably because she wasn't asked about it), but this proves it was due to the 2009 award. This lazy logic is why conservatives are so riddled with false facts. Something bad about Obama? Must be true, no need to question it. Let's repeat it everywhere.

Yeah. It had nothing to do with Obama at all. His party lost the election and the new ruling party wanted the seat

There is no "lazy logic / conservatives are riddled with false facts / something bad about Obama" where the Nobel Peace Prize is concerned.

It's a case where the recipient had done nothing to deserve it, and everyone knew that.  Where then later the recipient showed himself a warmonger, I can't even see how politically this issue can be twisted.  It just is what it is.

In fact, neither the receipt or the taking away of a Nobel Peace Prize is good or bad for Obama.

Let me take that back.  In a postmodern sense, giving the NPP "creates good history."

But that's just a matter of making up lies.

The report on RT:
http://rt.com/news/237465-nobel-peace-chairman-deposed/

Quote
The Nobel Peace Prize Committee’s chairman has been removed from his post for the first time in the award’s 114-year history. He’s been criticized over a number of the panel’s controversial picks, like US president and the EU.

Ousted Chairman Thorbjoern Jagland, a former Norwegian Labor prime minister, had been in charge of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for six years before he was voted out on Tuesday. He will remain a member of the committee, but the leading role has been passed on to the panel's deputy chairman, Kaci Kullmann Five, a former conservative party leader.

“There’s a new committee with new people, and new people can always lead to new considerations,” Kullmann Five told journalists. “Jagland has been a good leader for the committee for six years.”

Seems it's just the case of "the new broom sweeps in a new way", as they say in Russia. Smiley
Obama won't be the reason. Norway is extremely pro-US, with another Norwegian, and former PM from Workers' Party (what a joke) now leading NATO.

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”
“It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated.”

I never understood why some people got the Nobel Peace Prize, people or organizations, people like Al Gore, Barack Obama, Madre Teresa, why did they got the prize?

European Union got the prize in 2012, well, nothing better than trade agreement between countries to stop wars... Cheesy
