One hundred and seventeen years goes by in a flash, according to the world's oldest person.

Misao Okawa celebrated her 117th birthday a day early on Wednesday at a nursing home in western Japan, according to the Associated Press.

During the televised celebration, she told a government official that her life, "seemed rather short."

Damn, I'd be more than happy to make it into my 80s but this is beyond the pale.

It is even hard to believe that at that age you would be able to think at all (mildly speaking)!

Congrats, nevertheless, and many happy years ahead!

Not just the quality of life, but the quality of lifestyle too. Everything taking into consideration from their food, stress level, living, joys and sorrows, mindset, etc. affects the age of people.

I know a lot of long-livers who were far from being saints (mildly speaking). My grandfather who lived up to 90+ had even been heavily wounded in his youth (was about to kick the bucket but managed to survive somehow). This doesn't indeed mean that you should drink or smoke without caution. The upper limit on one's longevity is defined by one's genes, and it seems that it cannot be changed upward with the quality of life or lifestyle by any substantial margin.

There are many factors when it comes to how old a person can live to be, from genetics, to quality of life, mental state, advancement of medicine.. etc.

I really dont understand your point, im 30 now and it seams now like 30 years passed in blink of an eye, so i doubt i will ever be happy with the end comming near.
Im actually surprised that we are still limited mostly to that 80-90 years, givent the fact that its 21 century and the medicine advanced quite a lot, and why would it be ok only
to live up to 80's, i think that as a society we can achieve so much more if the age limit lifts atleast to 150..

cheers

Usually someone which vegetarian has a longer time life
example someone that eat and live on mountain has a higher chance to long life

Meanwhile when stay on the town, we pftem eat meat and also absorb traffic's pollution that decrease our life

Felt much better since i quit eating red meat and anytime i get stuck having to grab a beef burger somewhere i feel like shit.   I still eat fish and other lean protein, mostly vegetarian diet.  Red meat sucks.

Happy birthday, 117 year old lady.
Anyway, if I was to even reach like 90, I don't want to be at that age and sick of medicine in bed all day..
