Why wouldn't you? Its safe.
Only downside is some rings which may be visible if you're night driving.

Can give you bad night vision. Not nice if you need to drive at night.
Dry eyes can be a long term result of eye surgery. You may, eventually need to apply drops or gel every few hours. Dryness actually causes material to peel off the eye. The eye is good at repairing itself but the material blocks glands and ducts after a period of time.
This can lead to Blepharitis. You don't want bleph. This is particularly unpleasant and can be very debilitating. Not to mention its almost impossible to get rid of and control.

I guess there are risks with any sort of surgery but I was wondering what the percentage result in complications. The industry seems to advertise one percent but according to this guy it's likely 20-30% http://youtu.be/OyfmUxnl65g?t=2m55s. If true not something I'd personally take the risk of and would just stick with glasses or contacts.

I would estimate the risk is between 1 and 20%, it depends where you put the line of a good result. The price to pay is high with a reputable surgeon but the surgery seems to be very reliable now.

Lasik doesn't always help, for instance if you just have a lazy eye. Typically the eye itself is fine it's just the processing that's weak, Lasik can't help that.

Im not a fan of unnedded medical procedures, especially if has anything to do with vision. Myself been 4 eyes since childhood cant see without them, but doesnt bother me to wear glasses. Depends on you only thou. If you have money or insurance to cover and dont mind risk of surgery, then only you can make right decison for yourself. Keep us posted on what you decide!

Depends how you define unneeded. For some people their poor vision or having to wear glasses really effects their confidence. I guess some people get boobs jobs for the same reason but eyesite is a little different. Maybe glasses or contacts might not be suitable for some professions or activities so laser surgery is the best option. I guess you've got to just weigh up the positives and negatives at the end of the day.

For me, Im a geek that has glasses forever so dont care anymore. It makes me look smarter and chicks dig it. LOL. Everone is different thou, so results may vary!

I'd briefly considered lazer surgery as my eyesight has got a bit blurry over the past few years to the point where I need glasses for certain situations especially if the TV I'm watching is a couple of meters away but I don't think I could go through with the procedure. That video alone made me feel queasy and I don't even think I could wear contacts because I don't like touching my eyes or messing with them every morning and night. The eyes just seem too delicate and fragile to scrape and cut off layers and the fact that they could be made worse wouldn't be worth it for me.

Since he is looking to get the surgery, its likely that it is a problem of accommodation. In anycase doctor will check and proceed. I never bothered, I am doing with glasses just fine. If Bitcoin makes me rich I will go for the daily disposable lenses.

I forgot to say that I like the colour of your eye. It is blue like the sea! Yes or no to surgery?

I agree with you. It's completely unnatural. Surgery is a luxury of the 21st century. Think of al the times humans had without surgery - thy functioned just fine. In the wilderness, humans with bad eyes tend to die. Nature is telling you that you're not fit. Anyways, if you take off your glasses and don't get this surgery, you'll feel more natural and eventually your brains may adjust and compensate for your shitty eyes.

Hard choice to make. I've known people that have done LASIK and are happy with it, but I'd be cautious to do it myself. Not to mention the thought of the actual procedure is kinda frightening. I hadn't heard about possibly having worse night vision before, that is interesting.

Thank you everyone, there are certainly pros and cons of having the procedure. If I do end up getting it done, I want to go bladeless, because some of the videos I've seen look painful with that can-opener thing they use to cut the cornea flap.
