Recently I've came across alt coins that use the method of pyramid scheme to promote and sell their coins to large companies. Should this even be legal? and do you guys think bitcoin should go through this too? BTCBTC

Do you have any examples of such coins. Last I saw altcoins, didn't really see anything as such. As for scams, there are too many altcoins which are basically p&d's and scams.

I still don't get it. How can you maintain a pyramid scheme by selling bitcoins to a large company?

And as Enryk pointed out, not a single large company would accept those altcoins which are pyramid schemes.

Unfortunately, we have a whole section for it. And bitcoin is the one that seems to be using it the most.

It's not just a coin, it's the project they represent.

I wouldn't associate between the pyramid scheme and bitcoin. If a company that promises to use your fiat for making investment and promising a return, you are merely using your fiat as a form of payment. It has nothing to do with your fiat. Likewise, the same with bitcoin. And bitcoin certainly does not need all these to progress. We are basically on our own independent.

They should be.... Your laws applicable to your country still apply to you as a individual. If you use it, and your country does not allow for it, you would still be breaking the law.

Bitcoins is definitely not a Ponzi, but there are people using the currency {As they would, with any other currency} to run ponzi's. {How do you stop these people from using say credit cards to do the same?}

The law will still come after you, if you using it, online or offline.  Wink

What coins are you talking about and are you sure they're actually pyramid schemes?

as a far as i know pyramid scheme are illegal, and bitcoin shouldn't be used for it

I think they are illegal though that's because they are deceptive scams and the people who invest in them usually don't know that they're a pyramid scheme/scam. The ones on here are usually open about them being a pyramid or ponzi so are seen as no different from gambling because people know the risks when they invest or gamble on them.

Not so sure they're not illegal as per forum rules; i'm not a jurist, however, i think in some jurisdictions some prosecutor or LEO could think of the forum aiding and abetting of Ponzies frauds and could do his own job.

If you said ponzis are illegal, how about all forms of gambling? Is they are illegal also? Lips sealed

Gambling usually isn't illegal except in some strict countries, but my post above clarifies the difference between a ponzi scam and a ponzi game on this forum. When it's blatantly upfront about the nature of the game it's more like gambling as the participants are willing but with a scam they are unaware and unwilling.

Based on that, there are ponzi schemed cloud mining, how about it? Is that illegal also like other ponzi game? Most of people don't know about the scheme, right?

This has been going on forever with all these fake ass IPO's. Since crypto currencies are such a grey area most of the time they get away with it and theres not much that can be done about it.

People creating alt do it almost entirely only for profit.
