I wish I could buy silver at spot + have dies made + mint proof coins + custom holograms + coin slabs included for $16.00 too. The reality is that dies cost a lot of money + minting is not free + we actually make a small profit for all the effort.

To the haters and non-believers, please see this post I just wrote up yesterday on a similar topic. Obviously the coin I was originally writing that post for is a bit different, but the costs are similar. Okay then the Silver Wallets are not for everybody...  If you don't like it and want to go buy some shit buffalo generic silver round for spot + 50 cents go for it...  and don't post here talking shit, just move along. No need to post just to bash a product you are ignorant of, and where the hell you got brass from in the Silver Wallets thread, nobody knows...  Smiley

The high price tag compared to its precious metal content and Bitcoin value is due to several reasons:

-The coin has a total mintage of only 2009 coins. Low mintage coin runs like that cost Much more to mint than typical runs of bullion rounds where 500,000+ coins are minted.
-The costs to design the artwork for the coin, and to manufacture the 2 dies needed to mint it are factored in.
-The costs for the 2009 ounces of Silver, and the total 20.09 Bitcoins funded within all of the coins.
-The costs to design and manufacture the custom, tamper-evident security hologram are factored in.
-This coin is a Proof coin, which adds to the costs. Compared to standard "business" strikes, Proof-struck coins take a lot more time and effort to manufacture, and usually after each single coin is struck, the 2 dies are hand-polished to assure its Proof quality isn't flawed.
-Then there is the time needed to securely generate the private keys and assemble each coin with its hologram.
-Also it comes with a COA and custom case I believe, which adds to the costs.
-Lastly, on top of all of that some must be added onto the costs so that a profit can be made, and the manufacturer didn't do all this work for nothing.

Where have I seen these before? Oh yeah...Mike Caldwell had a thread about these a few years back, he called them Casascius coins.

Why do you claim this is a new kind of physical storage when it's been around since 2011. And to add insult to injury you practically copy Mike's design with your silver and brass version, not cool!

$80 is way too steep for a brass token. I wonder how many of these you're actually selling.

Our coins look nothing like Mike's and they are not brass. They are new as in something different...mike did not mainly sell unloaded coins. I always see you making snarky remarks in physical coin threads like you are some expert. If you think Mike invented adding some gilt onto silver coins you really are clueless.

Come on Blazed, let's be honest about this:

1) Design 1 and Design 1 with Gold Trim are VERY similar to Caldwell's coins, the obverse side with the BTC is nearly the same. You have added some detail, but the foundation of this coin was first seen on Casascius issues.

2) Both designs are silver, Caldwell's coins (of similar design) are also silver. I never mentioned brass, in fact the first person to do so was you as you tried to misdirect my claim of how much your coins resemble Casascius. To even have a coin that's silver "with gold trim" is a copy from Mike, direct copy. Let's not look past this obvious point.

3) You claim this is a "new kind of physical storage" yet it's been around for nearly 5 years, Caldwell was first to sell them loaded and first to sell them unloaded as rounds. In fact, the only reason you can't sell them loaded is because the US Feds put a stop to Mike doing it!

It's cool if you want to also sell coins like this, I wish you good luck with it. But please don't represent the idea as original when it clearly isn't, to do so is deceptive...especially to newcomers in the forum.

And, for the record I think the price is fair - I'll take back my original complaint about that, it wasn't needed. I totally agree that coins like this sell at a premium above the metal value.

Thanks for hearing out my point of view. I'll try to keep my comments from coming across as snarky. I'm as much an expert about this as you are. I've put a lot of my own research into what people price these coins at and I think my opinions (on other threads), particularly about price valuations are valuable to insight that provide sellers and potential buyers with additional information to accurately gauge the value these coins have.

Hello Possum577. Smiley

You seem to be quite intelligent and well spoken, so I'm hoping that we are able to have a gentlemen's discussion about this.

While I do agree that one can easily see the resemblance to Casascius coins, it does not at all mean that Silver Wallets copied or stole anything from Mike.

1)

Mike created a simple and clean image using the Bitcoin logo on a physical coin.  It would make sense for anyone involved in physical coins designed specifically for Bitcoin to use the logo in some shape or form.

With absolutely no disrespect to Mike, this doesn't equate to Mike being the creator of such a design or resulting in any future coins to be made in similar fashion to be copies or replicates. I could provide several examples using coins and flags or other symbols, but I think one can easily draw the inferences I'm trying to make.

2)

Coin designing has been around for over a century and there are several thousand coins that feature silver with gold trim.

Again, this has a lot to do with the fact that just because he was the first into the Bitcoin niche of physical bitcoins does not make him the originator and sole proprietor of such designs.  By your logic, you could argue that Mike has copied from the countless coin designers before him.  That is just silly.

Mike simply had an inspiration to create his own take on a beautiful designed coin and that is exactly what Silver Wallets has done as well.

3)

Silver Wallets are actually the first to deliver the ability to offer buyer funded Bitcoin physical coins with the use of private keys.  This is a completely solid and legitimate claim to "A new kind of physical storage".

Cliff notes;

Silver Wallets are beautifully designed.  They may hold some resemblance to other coins but are completely original and professionally crafted.

Also, a few notes in regards to price:

Silver Wallets does not do pre-orders of any kind.  They take all the risk of ordering a full line of products by themselves.  This takes an extreme amount of capital and means that they can easily lose money if they do not sell enough to cover the costs of time, effort, custom dies, other materials, design, packaging, marketing, and mint.

Silver Wallets has one of the very (if not the) best records for coin grading.  You'll be hard pressed to find a Silver Wallets coin that has been graded less than MS66 with most graded coins resulting in MS67 DCAM.

Are they still shipped from US ? If so, what is the package value on customs declaration - full price or is it buyer friendly? EU shipping.
Thanks Smiley

Got my gold glided coin today and it's realy beautiful.
I've had no problems with customs at all as declaration was filled out buyer friendly.
Thanks. Grin

Yes, because there's absolutely no cost involved in the minting process, no cost for the dies, no cost for the holograms, no cost for the artist design work, no cost for the insurance and shipping from the mint, and oh yeah, because silver spot price is exactly the same today as it was when these were minted.

It's not possible to snipe in the current auction. Sorry monbux, but good luck anyway!
