Isn't it dangerous to lay pennies on a train track? Undecided

No, not at all. According to the snopes website (as well as various online posts from train engineers/workers), it's a perfectly harmless tradition and will NOT derail a train. Wink

Mythbusters did an experiment with it too. "The train simply heated and flattened the pennies. Quoting narrator Rob Lee, The myth wasn’t Busted – it was Flattened."

Me

I've put pennies on a track before and they were completely flattened with no design.  These bitcoin pennies must be beefy or the train that ran over my pennies was carrying a lot more weight.   Grin

It depends on ...where on the rail you put the coin....A train wheel only makes contact with a small part of the rail... to reduce friction...   if you place the coin near the point of contact ...the coin will become so flat that it will become sharp like a blade..... further away from the point of contact and the gap will increase ....and not flatten the coin as much...... I think that point of contact is near the inside edge of a rail...

The myth busting "coin flatten by a train" testing I did was with a quarter and the train was moving really slow.....
The flatten quarter is so sharp on one edge that I can open boxes with it

And I would never distroy a bitcoin penny like that...

That explains why some of the design remained. I taped my coins to the center of the rail.

Very odd as I did the same exact thing!  Taped them dead center with scotch tape.   Smiley

Here are two photos as I carry this coin around with me in my wallet and yes it is sharp like BG explained.  The train that went over this penny was a freight train and not a passenger train.

Great idea! The larger of the two Bitcoin Penny Limited RR Edition™ coins has a pretty sharp edge. I'll try it soon. Smiley

I hope this set comes with a train doodle....

Maybe, I'll have to choo-choo it over a while. (My sincerest apologies, but I simply can't help myself when it comes to bad puns. I'd try to explain my reasons, but I'm afraid you'd find that I have loco motives.) Grin

Anyway... a few more 2-Packs and Short Rolls in the mail. Thank you, everyone. Wink

Good afternoon, folks! It's time to have more fun with another Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins auction! And this time, we're playing with a baseball theme.

First at bat was dozerz, who stepped up to the plate and smacked a HOMERUN with an opening bid of .30 BTC! Shocked

Who's next in the lineup? It could be YOU!

How do you play? It's simple! Any bid increase of .01 is a single, .02 is a double, .03 is a triple, and .04 is a homerun. And for those POWER HITTERS, any bid increase of 1.00 BTC or more is the big GRAND SLAM!

Click here to visit / play at BitcoinTalk Park ---> AUCTION: Bitcoin Penny™ The Complete Set #3

Have fun, and good luck! Wink

Christopher
